In the early stages of the season, Man Utd were once again in a desperate search for a goalkeeping reinforcement following Altay Bayindir's unconvincing performances in the Premier League and Andre Onana's disastrous performance in the Carabao Cup defeat against Grimsby.

The repeated mistakes made by goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have left Man Utd with no choice but to recruit a new goalkeeper.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are closer to signing goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. Notably, the Argentinian goalkeeper was surprisingly absent from Aston Villa's squad for last night's match against Crystal Palace.
Martinez had shown signs of parting ways with Aston Villa fans after last season, but a new destination has yet to materialize. Despite having four years left on his contract with Aston Villa, the 2022 World Cup-winning star is reportedly "very eager" to join Old Trafford. Previously, ESPN revealed that Martinez had tried to push the deal through, but Manchester United only offered a loan deal, which Villa rejected.
Manchester United's management will immediately begin negotiations on a transfer fee with Aston Villa on the final day of the transfer window (September 1st). Besides Martinez, Man Utd are also eyeing Senne Lammens of Antwerp.

The Belgian goalkeeper started the first four games of the season but was surprisingly dropped from the squad recently amid transfer rumors. However, Aston Villa have also entered the fray, seeing the 22-year-old goalkeeper as a potential replacement for Martinez, who may move to Man Utd.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United and Aston Villa legend Dwight Yorke believes Martinez is the ideal choice for Old Trafford. He stated: “Emi Martinez is a goalkeeper with a strong personality, extensive experience, a World Cup winner, and one of the best when facing penalties.”
I was convinced he would definitely go to Man Utd, and it's a real shame the deal didn't go through. While staying at Aston Villa was a sensible decision for Martinez, it would have been ideal if the goalkeeper had moved to Man Utd.”
