Note:

Some provinces/cities have separate exam schedules for specialized schools, ethnic boarding schools, or admissions for non-specialized schools and continuing education schools.
The main subjects are Math, Literature, and Foreign Language (mainly English, some places also have French, Japanese, German, Korean, Russian, Chinese). Specialized schools often have additional specialized subjects.
Some localities (Binh Dinh, Hoa Binh, Kien Giang, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh).

List of 3 admission methods for grade 10 in 2025

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has issued new regulations on admission to junior high schools and high schools, along with Circular No. 30/TT-BGD&DT dated December 30, 2024, which will officially take effect from February 14, 2025. These regulations stipulate three methods of admission to grade 10 of high school, providing flexibility and suitability to the actual conditions of each locality.

Three methods of admission to grade 10 in 2025

According to the new regulations, localities can choose one of three methods of admission to grade 10 high school, including:

Entrance exam: Organize an exam to assess students' abilities.

Admission: Based on academic results or other criteria for selection.

Combining examination and selection: Combine both methods above to ensure fairness and efficiency.

The right to decide on the admission method belongs to local education management agencies, helping to suit the characteristics of each region.

Regulations on entrance exams for grade 10 in 2025

Regarding the examination method, to ensure that the examination takes place smoothly, cost-effectively and consistently across the country, the Circular stipulates the organization of three subjects or exams, including:

Math and Literature: Two compulsory subjects.

Third subject: Selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores in the secondary school program. This subject cannot be repeated for more than three consecutive years to ensure diversity.

In addition, the third exam can be a combined exam, combining subjects from the secondary school program, assessed by score.

For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities or research institutes, the third subject or combined exam will be decided by the direct management unit. The announcement of the third subject or combined exam must be completed before March 31 every year, after the end of the first semester.
