Speaking to Thanh Nien today (July 29), Mr. Doan Tuan Anh - General Secretary of the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation and in charge of this sport at the Department of Sports and Physical Training said that on July 13, the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation received a notice from ACBS. The notice clearly stated that the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation's officials, athletes, and coaches will be banned from participating in Asian and international activities and tournaments for 6 months, from June 13, 2024 to January 12, 2025.
Vietnam Billiards & Snooker hit hard with 6-month ban from Asian Federation
With the above decision, the players of the Vietnamese billiards team will not be able to attend the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 6) in November this year in Thailand. In addition, according to coach Nguyen Viet Hoa, it is likely that Vietnam will not be able to host the 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup in Binh Thuan in September, nor will it be able to attend the World Cup in Korea.
Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh were affected.
The leader of the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation said the reason why Vietnam was banned was because last year, despite being warned by the Asian side, they still organized a number of tournaments against regulations in Hanoi . These tournaments continued to be scheduled to be held in August and October 2024 in Hanoi, further putting the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation in a difficult position. Therefore, immediately after the ban, on the one hand, the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation responded to ACBS, on the other hand, sent a notice to the Department of Sports and Physical Training to report the incident and at the same time asked for support in sending a document requesting the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to consider granting a license for the above two tournaments.
Vietnamese billiard players miss the chance to compete in major tournaments due to the ban of the Asian Billiards Federation.
Coach Nguyen Viet Hoa is worried that if the ban is extended to world tournaments, it will greatly affect the journey to conquer the 3-cushion carom billiards village of Vietnam's top players today, such as Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh.
