Operations when calling 115 in emergency situations - Photo: 115 Emergency Center
On May 16, Dr. Nguyen Duy Long - Director of the 115 Emergency Center - said that at the beginning of the rainy season, the unit continuously received many cases of accidents caused by electric shock, mostly due to subjectivity with damaged electrical equipment, leaking electrical wires or humid environmental conditions...
At 3:40 p.m. on May 15, the 115 hotline received an emergency call from a company in Tan Binh district, reporting that a female office worker (24 years old) was electrocuted and unconscious due to using a broken, exposed phone charger cord causing an electric current to leak.
After determining the situation, the operator instructed the caller to quickly disconnect the power, ensure safety, and at the same time provided first aid instructions to the victim over the phone and urgently coordinated the satellite emergency station of Tam Anh General Hospital to the scene.
Thanks to timely treatment, after only about 2 minutes of first aid, the victim regained consciousness and was out of danger.
On May 12, hotline 115 also received a report about a young man (24 years old) in Hoc Mon district who was suspected of being electrocuted and left unconscious.
The operator quickly reassured the caller, instructed them on how to disconnect the power and provide first aid, and dispatched the Hoc Mon satellite emergency station to the scene. However, when the paramedics arrived, the victim had stopped breathing and had stopped breathing.
Dr. Long said that the rainy season brings with it many potential risks of accidents, the most worrying of which are electrical accidents, flooding, and fallen trees. People need to be more vigilant and proactive in taking precautions to protect themselves and their families.
The most common risks include: electric shock due to electrical leakage from unsafe appliances, exposed electrical wires, wet outdoor outlets; flooding causing electrical equipment to short-circuit, leading to the risk of fire or electric shock.
What to do to prevent unfortunate accidents during the rainy season?
To minimize the risk of accidents during the rainy season, Dr. Long recommends that people keep in mind the following measures:
- Never use electrical equipment with wet hands, on wet floors or in flooded areas.
- Turn off the circuit breaker or circuit breaker immediately when detecting electrical leakage or water overflowing into the socket or electrical equipment.
- Avoid taking shelter from the rain under trees, near electric poles, or where electric wires are sagging or broken.
- Actively check and maintain electrical systems periodically, especially outdoor equipment such as pumps, fans, and garden lights.
- Avoid going out during heavy rain, avoid going into flooded areas or areas where construction is under way.
