(HBĐT) - On May 17, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Pham Tien Dat (born 1987), residing in Bang hamlet, Bao La commune (Mai Chau) for the crime of illegally transporting drugs.
For transporting more than 260 grams of synthetic drugs, Pham Tien Dat was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
According to the case file, on December 19, 2022, while herding cows in a hilly area of Cun Pheo commune (Mai Chau), Pham Tien Dat met an unfamiliar Mong man. After talking, the man asked Dat to transport a package of drugs to Bao La commune for 5 million VND. Receiving the drugs from the Mong man, Dat hid them on his person and brought them home without telling anyone.
At around 7:00 p.m. the same day, Dat brought the drugs to the meeting point to deliver the drugs and receive payment. However, on the way to deliver the drugs, Dat was asked by the Mai Chau District Police to stop the vehicle for an administrative check. During the check, Dat voluntarily took out the package of drugs hidden on his person and handed it over to the working group. Upon inspection at the police station, it was found that the plastic package Dat handed over contained 9 blue and pink plastic packages containing synthetic drug pills, with a total weight of 267.93 grams of Methamphetamine.
During the investigation as well as at the trial, Pham Tien Dat confessed to all his crimes. The defendant's confession is consistent with the case file and documents. With the above-mentioned crimes, after comprehensively reviewing the content of the case, the Provincial People's Court sentenced Pham Tien Dat to 18 years in prison for illegal transportation of narcotics under Point b, Clause 4, Article 250 of the Penal Code.
