It is known that the 10th grade entrance exam at some schools, mainly schools in the central districts of Ho Chi Minh City in recent years is often quite stressful, with a high "competition" rate because many candidates register but the quota only meets about 20 - 30% of the demand.
For the first entrance exam of junior high school (grade 6), the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City also applies the principle of the National High School Exam and the consideration of academic records. The difference compared to previous years is that the number of schools that conduct the National High School Exam has increased significantly (last year there were only 2 schools) because the demand of students in these schools is high while the quota cannot be met. This National High School Exam will be conducted by the school in coordination with the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City. Students who are not admitted to these schools can continue to study at other junior high schools in the area according to the principle of having completed primary school and registering near their place of residence. Due to the difference in quality of junior high schools and the demand of students and parents, some schools have a large number of students registering, leading to the need to conduct the National High School Exam. Although not as stressful as the high school exam period, it is predicted that secondary school admissions in Ho Chi Minh City this year will also be highly competitive, especially at good quality schools located in the center.
Ho Chi Minh City also regulates the enrollment in grade 1 with the purpose of prioritizing students who will study at schools near their current residence.
