Soldiers and workers at the Sang Ma Sao resettlement site

In recent days, the construction site of the resettlement area in Ma Mu Su 1 village, Sang Ma Sao commune (Bat Xat) has been bustling with the sound of machines. With the spirit of "overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain", the workers of the 789 Corporation (Ministry of National Defense) and officers and soldiers of Regiment 174, Division 316, Military Region 2 have been working day and night to urgently complete the project so that people affected by natural disasters can soon have a new place to live.

Mr. Dinh Xuan Ha, Site Commander, said: Currently, the site maintains nearly 200 engineers, workers, officers and soldiers, organized into 10 construction teams working in parallel. The biggest difficulty is the rocky terrain that greatly affects the progress of site leveling. In addition, the erratic weather, sometimes with rain and sunshine, has forced construction to be temporarily suspended, so we have to take advantage of every day, every hour, even working overtime in the evening to ensure the overall progress.

The resettlement project is being implemented on a land area of over 3.5 hectares. 60 houses with traditional Mong architecture will be built here, suitable for the climate and terrain conditions of the highlands. The Military Region 2 Command is the investor, and the 789 Corporation is in charge of the construction.

The working spirit here is “working day and night”, taking advantage of every hour to complete the project as soon as possible. Even during the holidays, workers are arranged to take turns off, the construction site still operates normally.

To speed up the progress, the soldiers of Regiment 174 have been reinforced to coordinate with workers at the construction site. After more than a month of deployment, there are now more than 30 existing houses. The teams have been leveling the ground, building service roads, and building houses with the motto "Wherever the ground is, there will be houses". It is expected that in early May, the houses in the new resettlement area will have roofs, doors installed, and floors paved.

At the construction site, the 789 Corporation has erected many slogans to demonstrate the tradition of the unit, while encouraging engineers and workers to compete to exceed the project schedule. However, perhaps what motivates each soldier and worker here to urgently construct is the desire to help people affected by natural disasters stabilize their lives soon. Mr. Luong Van Linh, head of the 10-member construction team, said: The team was reinforced to the construction site more than 2 weeks ago, and so far has completed the rough construction of 3 houses, an average of more than 1 house every 5 days. This is the first time he has done such a special project.

In the construction teams, many people have just completed a resettlement project in Minh Xuan commune, Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province - which was also heavily affected by storm No. 3. Without resting for long, they quickly set off, continuing their journey to the Sang Ma Sao people. Mr. Mong Van Huy of the construction team shared: "Participating in projects like this, we not only construct but also bring the faith and heart of the soldiers and workers to the people. Each house is a great joy not only for the people but also for the engineers and workers themselves".

In addition to the experienced workers, there are also enthusiastic young soldiers on the construction site. Lieutenant Ma Seo Duong (from Bac Ha) emotionally shared: “It was the flash flood at the end of last year that caused heavy damage to my hometown. Today, I am very happy to be assigned by my unit to go to Lao Cai to help people build houses. The houses here are not much different from the houses of the Mong ethnic people in Bac Ha”. Mr. Duong believes that when he helps the people here, somewhere in the flood area of Bac Ha, there will be people coming to help his people and village.

The resettlement area in Sang Ma Sao is not only a new place to live but also a symbol of humanity, sharing and national unity. Each brick laid down carries the responsibility and affection of the soldiers towards the people. It is also a place to demonstrate the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. Lieutenant Nguyen Chi Trung (Regiment 174, Division 316) affirmed: We are proud to contribute our efforts, promote the unit's tradition and the qualities of soldiers for the people.

As the first houses appeared on the new land, hope began to sprout after the losses. Mr. Vu A Sung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sang Ma Sao Commune, said: "People are very happy to know that the Ministry of National Defense supports the construction of a resettlement project for households that suffered heavy losses due to floods in the area. In the past few days, the images of construction forces working enthusiastically and wholeheartedly to build houses for people have moved everyone. Hopefully the project will be completed soon so that people can move to their new homes before the flood season."
