YouTube has just updated its iOS application to the new version 20.22.1, requiring devices to run iOS 16 or higher to be able to install and use.
Old iPhone and iPad series cannot use YouTube app |
This means that a number of older iPhone and iPad models will no longer be directly compatible with the YouTube app.
Specifically, the affected iPhone models include the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, and the first-generation iPhone SE. In addition, the 7th-generation iPod Touch is also on the list of devices that are no longer supported.
For iPad users, the YouTube app also requires iPadOS 16 or later, making it impossible for iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4 models to continue using the app.
Although they cannot use a dedicated app, users of the above devices can still access and watch videos on YouTube via a web browser.
However, this experience is warned to be significantly cut down on features and performance compared to using the native app.
