According to nutritionists, pumpkin seeds and blueberries are rich in nutrients and offer many health benefits, making them a healthy evening snack choice.
Pumpkin seeds are rich in nutrients like zinc and healthy fats. They are also loaded with antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids that support heart health, reduce inflammation and boost overall immunity, says Ruchika Jain, MD, Head of Nutrition at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, India.
“They are rich in protein, healthy fats, and many essential nutrients. A handful of pumpkin seeds provides a significant amount of alkaline, zinc, and iron,” says Eshanka Wahi, culinary nutritionist, holistic health coach, and founder of Eat Clean with Eshanka, a nutrition company based in India.
Additionally, pumpkin seeds are beneficial for better sleep and mood regulation thanks to their tryptophan content, an amino acid that aids in serotonin production. Pumpkin seeds are also a good source of antioxidants, which help protect the body against inflammation and chronic diseases.
Meanwhile, according to Ms. Ruchika Jain, blueberries are rich in fiber and antioxidants, especially anthocyanins. They can be an ideal snack for weight control, helping to maintain a healthy digestive system. Compounds in blueberries are also known for their healthy anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
According to Ms. Eshanka Wahi: "These two foods are high in fiber, which aids digestion. They are also rich in polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants known to reduce the risk of heart disease and improve body function. The combination of fiber and antioxidants between pumpkin seeds and blueberries is perfect because the total nutritional content of these two foods brings many health benefits."
Eating both of these as an evening snack not only satisfies hunger but also boosts nutritional balance.
In addition, Dr. Neeti Sharma, chief nutritionist at Marengo Asia Hospital Faridabad (India) said that eating pumpkin seeds combined with blueberries in the evening can help you sleep better because they can also lower blood pressure.
“The zinc, copper, and selenium in pumpkin seeds can also affect the duration and quality of sleep. When you get a good amount of the amino acid, tryptophan, like in pumpkin seeds and blueberries, you will also sleep well,” Dr. Sharma analyzed.
Also according to Dr. Sharma, blueberries are effective in treating sleep disorders and improving brain health and memory.
