Federico Chiesa has been left out of Liverpool's squad for their pre-season tour of 2025/26. |
According to the Liverpool Echo , Atalanta are willing to loan the Italian winger with a mandatory buyout clause of 12 million euros. The Italian club can pay the loan fee of 3-5 million euros, but Liverpool will have to pay a large part of Chiesa's salary.
The move comes as Chiesa is no longer part of Liverpool's plans and has been allowed to leave Anfield just a year after joining from Juventus. The Italian winger was left out of manager Arne Slot's squad for Liverpool's pre-season tour in July.
This decision is seen as a clear sign that Chiesa is likely to leave Anfield in the summer transfer window of 2025. Chiesa's current contract with Liverpool lasts until 2028, but with the current situation, Liverpool's board of directors has accepted his departure to balance the finances.
Previously, other Serie A clubs such as Napoli and AC Milan considered bringing Chiesa to strengthen their attack, but encountered difficulties due to Liverpool's financial demands. They believed that the price of 15-20 million euros for Chiesa was too high for Serie A clubs to pay.
However, with Atalanta's entry, Chiesa and Liverpool have found a way out. The 2023/24 Europa League winners are ready to buy Chiesa outright in the summer of 2026, after a one-year loan. The total value of the deal remains at the €15-17 million mark as Liverpool demand, but the financial pressure on Atalanta will be significantly reduced as they will only be on loan for the 2025/26 season.
