Beautiful memories with U.19 Vietnam

In episode 4 of his personal podcast called XT6 , midfielder Luong Xuan Truong opened up about the beautiful memories when he was with the Vietnam U.19 team that first appeared to fans. That was in 2013, when the generation of Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong, Tuan Anh, Van Toan... from the HAGL-JMG academy were promoted to the Vietnam U.19 team to participate in the Southeast Asian U.19 tournament.

Despite losing to U.19 Indonesia in the final, U.19 Vietnam was widely welcomed by fans with its beautiful, confident passing style of play, along with a fair-play, pure competitive spirit.

Xuan Truong recalled: "Back in September 2013, I, along with coach Guillaume and my brothers in U.19 Vietnam, fought in the U.19 Southeast Asia tournament in Indonesia. The U.19 Vietnam squad that year was mostly students from the HAGL - JMG academy, combined with 8 players who had performed excellently in domestic youth tournaments.

For players from other training centers, they have experienced many official youth tournaments at home and abroad. However, for the academy players, this is the first time we have officially entered the field. Although it was the first time we participated in an official tournament, we did not feel nervous or afraid of anything. That day, playing football was truly enjoyable. We played football very carefree, confidently passing the ball and implementing the familiar tiki-taka style of play.

According to the midfielder born in 1995, U.19 Vietnam played with great effort and left a good impression. Coach Guillaume Graechen's team only lacked a little luck to win the championship.

HAGL players used to be very afraid of the media

Thinking back to 10 years ago, when HAGL players faced sudden fame, many people were unable to... handle it, and were overwhelmed by the pressure of expectations.

"Honestly, when I received so much attention from everyone, I couldn't help but feel dizzy. Looking back, I felt very excited at that time whenever people paid attention to me. After every match where I did well, I always looked forward to positive comments and reviews about my performance.

We are not arrogant after receiving praise from the audience, but the more praise we receive, the higher the expectations. Only after going through stages like this can we realize the negative side of praise and criticism.

Over time, I gradually learned a lesson: I should just read those comments for fun, because the online community's assessment is just the opinion of each individual, and most people are not football professionals. I can be open to assessments and comments, but they should come from experts. As for other comments, I will not pay much attention," Xuan Truong emphasized.

"For me personally and most of the academy players, social media is a place we are very cautious about. Sharing our feelings and status on social media is very interesting, but it can also be a place where we encounter bad things, such as negative comments that lack constructiveness, or articles that are not true about us. Social media is a place of extremely free activity, so controlling everything related to us there is almost impossible. As young boys who have just grown up, we have certainly been affected psychologically.

Until now, I have hardly read any information related to myself. On social networks, I have not let any information related to Vietnamese football appear. Friends and relatives often call to ask if this or that information is correct. I often answer: only believe 10% of it.
