Visitors to Vietnam can easily enjoy a cup of coffee from small street stalls with plastic chairs on the sidewalk to modern, luxurious cafes with on-site roasters.

The unique, unforgettable flavor of Vietnamese coffee has left a deep impression on every visitor to this country with the second largest coffee export volume in the world .

When they are no longer in Vietnam, many international tourists still remember that taste and try to make a cup of authentic Vietnamese coffee using tips shared on social networks. But in reality, the delicious taste of Vietnamese coffee is hard to "imitate".

Vietnam has been very successful in creating many drinks with great flavors combined with coffee such as: Salt coffee, egg coffee, coconut coffee, coffee smoothie, coffee yogurt, iced milk coffee...

CNN especially emphasized the surprisingly delicious taste of salt coffee - a new drink recently created in Vietnam.

As CNN describes it: "Although the name may put people off, the taste of salted coffee is really impressive. The milk and sweetened cream balance the bitterness of the coffee, and the salt adds sweetness, much like how a little salt in salted caramel makes the caramel flavor stand out more. The unique taste of salted coffee may surprise those who have never tasted it."

Salt coffee has been loved by Vietnamese people and international tourists since its inception. Even Starbucks branches in Vietnam joined the "salt coffee wave" by launching their own version of salt coffee last May.

According to a 2023 report by global market research firm Mintel, consumers outside Asia are increasingly interested in these new coffee experiences and flavors. About 71% of Gen Z consumers surveyed by Mintel in the US said they were interested in trying Asian-inspired coffee drinks like Vietnamese coffee.

In the US, 7 Leaves Café – a chain of Vietnamese coffee shops – has expanded to more than 40 locations, with the first opening in California in 2011. Vietnamese coffee shops have also popped up across the country, with Phin Ca Phe in Seattle and Càphe Roasters in Philadelphia offering versions of the salted coffee, demonstrating the country’s love affair with Vietnamese coffee.

In London, UK, places like Caphe House also offer a variety of Vietnamese coffee drinks, including egg coffee.

In 2023, Vietnamese iced milk coffee was ranked first in the list of 10 best coffees in the world by TasteAtlas. This is not the first time Vietnamese coffee has been named by TasteAtlas on global coffee rankings. The website is quite favorable to coffees from Vietnam, as TasteAtlas previously ranked 4 drinks from Vietnam in the list of 50 most popular coffees in the world.
