On March 24, images of Miss Ngoc Chau wearing a see-through ao dai were widely shared on social media and caused controversy. In two images posted by designer Le Long Dung, Ngoc Chau wore a modernized ao dai with a bra on the outside. In one image, the beauty queen wore a long blazer. In addition, Ngoc Chau had bright hair and posed in a unique way.

The image was posted by Le Long Dung in January. However, when Vanessa Nattacha Wenk, a contestant of Miss Grand Thailand, caused controversy for wearing an overly sexy ao dai design when arriving in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of March 23, Ngoc Chau's image was noticed again. Vanessa Nattacha Wenk - Miss Grand Saraburi 2023 (Miss Grand Saraburi Province) also wore a sexy ao dai design, with see-through material on the chest.
Ngoc Chau's image made the public unhappy. They thought that the beauty queen and her team could innovate the ao dai but not in a sexy, even offensive way like the current one. The use of see-through material and the combination of bras were not approved. The audience thought that Ngoc Chau was a beauty queen so she needed to be more careful with her image.
When the controversy broke out, designer Le Long Dung deleted 2 images. Zing reporters contacted but representatives of Ngoc Chau and designer Le Long Dung have not yet responded.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Chau was born in 1994, 1.74 m tall with measurements of 85-64-95 cm. She won the title of Vietnam's Next Top Model 2016 Champion and Miss Universe Vietnam 2022. At the 71st Miss Universe, Ngoc Chau was in the group of candidates with a balanced body. However, the beauty missed the top 16.
Afterwards, the beauty queen apologized to the public for not achieving good results. She said : "Chau wants to apologize to everyone, to those who have always followed and supported Chau from the very beginning. Chau apologizes for not being able to make the two words Vietnam shouted many times on the Miss Universe stage."
Recently, she was involved in a controversy over not graduating and being overstayed at Ton Duc Thang University (HCMC). On February 2, Mr. Tran Viet Bao Hoang - CEO of Unicorp, the company that holds the copyright of Miss Universe Vietnam - confirmed the information.
According to Mr. Bao Hoang, at the time of the Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 contest, Ngoc Chau's profile stated that she had a 12/12 education level and was studying Biotechnology at Ton Duc Thang University. Ngoc Chau had not yet graduated from Ton Duc Thang University. Currently, she is almost done with her courses, waiting for the time to do an internship and graduate.
