Despite Israel's continued fierce attacks on the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital Beirut, Iran's missile attack on Israel on October 1, and the recent killing of a Hamas leader in the West Bank, US President Joe Biden still does not believe in a full-scale conflict in the Middle East.

On October 3, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had killed Zahi Yaser Abd al-Razeq Oufi, the leader of the Hamas network in Tulkarm in the West Bank.

According to the IDF, Mr. Oufi was the planner and commander of numerous attacks in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and locations in Israel.

On the same day, the Israeli army carried out a heavy airstrike on the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, causing large fires that prevented civil defense teams from reaching the area.

Despite the fierce fighting taking place on two battlefields in the Middle East, Reuters news agency quoted US President Joe Biden as saying that he does not believe there will be an "all-out war".

According to the US leader, such a war could be avoided but "there is still a lot of work to be done". When asked by reporters if he would send US troops to help Israel, President Biden replied: "We have been helping Israel. We will protect Israel".

Biden's statement came as Iran and Israel, two arch-enemies in the region, also escalated tensions after Israel weighed options to respond to Tehran's ballistic missile attack on October 1.

Iran has accused Israel of killing tens of thousands of people, mostly women and children, in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, pushing the Middle East to the brink of a serious crisis. In addition, Israel's recent actions against civilians in Lebanon, using communications technology as a weapon, have made it "impossible for the world to remain silent; it needs to act quickly and decisively."
