According to Malaysia's Bernama news agency, the above information was announced by Prime Minister Anwar during the presentation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) to the Parliament , after he had a phone call with President Trump.
In addition, Prime Minister Anwar added, during the phone call: "Mr. Trump expressed his appreciation for Malaysia's effective and commendable role in contributing to resolving the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia."
The discussion also touched on trade issues, including tariffs and the ongoing negotiations between the Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the US Trade Representative and Secretary of Commerce.
“After my clarification, President Trump has decided to review the tariffs imposed on Malaysia, no later than tomorrow,” Mr Anwar added.
Earlier this month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was in Kuala Lumpur to attend the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), currently chaired by Malaysia. Prime Minister Anwar extended a formal invitation to President Trump to attend the ASEAN Summit through Secretary of State Rubio.
The 13th ASEAN-US Summit is also scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit. The last time a US President attended the Summit in Kuala Lumpur was in November 2015, when former President Barack Obama attended the event.
