The 13th Vietnam-China Consular Consultation: Enhancing understanding and effectiveness of consular and citizen protection cooperation

On October 30, the 13th Consular Consultation Meeting between Vietnam and China took place in Chongqing City (China).

The meeting was co-chaired by Doan Hoang Minh, Director of the Consular Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs , and Long Chau, Director of the Consular Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Also attending the meeting were representatives of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Department, the Vietnamese representative agency in China.

The political relations between the two Parties and the two countries are progressing very well. The two countries have established a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and built a community of shared future of strategic significance. People-to-people exchanges are taking place actively, and the relationships between the two peoples are increasingly diverse. In that context, the two sides agreed that it is very necessary to strengthen dialogue between the two sides' professional agencies, including consular consultations.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of further facilitating each other's citizens in entry, exit, residence, and carrying out administrative procedures in the other country's territory; protecting the rights and interests of citizens, fishermen, and vessels; enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in consular affairs, citizen protection, warning, and prevention of natural disasters and floods; exchanging experiences on measures to improve the efficiency of providing public consular services, implementing consular legalization work, and implementing the Hague Convention on the Apostille Convention.

The two sides agreed that the meeting's results helped enhance mutual understanding, propose plans to resolve arising problems in consular work, contribute to best serving the people and businesses, and effectively implement cooperation directions set forth by senior leaders of the two Parties and two countries.

On this occasion, Mr. Long Chau and Mr. Doan Hoang Minh attended the opening ceremony of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing on October 29. In addition, the Vietnamese delegation also had a working session and exchanged experiences at the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Department on the practice of decentralizing the implementation of consular legalization work and implementing the Apostille Convention locally.
