The lowest-priced Mac mini M4 saw a 37% price increase overnight.

Apple unexpectedly removed the 265GB storage option for the Mac mini M4 without prior notice. The product now starts at 512GB, costing 5.5 million VND more.

On May 3rd, Apple officially discontinued the 256GB storage option for the Mac mini globally. As a result, this desktop model now has a starting price that is 30-40% higher than before, depending on the market. In Vietnam, the difference is approximately 5.5 million VND, equivalent to 37%.

For example, in the US, the Mac mini currently starts at $799 for the configuration with an M4 chip, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. Previously, it was listed at $599 for the configuration with an M4 chip, 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage.

The 512GB configuration has always been priced at $799 from the start. However, customers who need it can't buy a cheaper Mac mini at $600 from Apple. Models equipped with the M4 Pro chip already have a minimum storage capacity of 512GB. Therefore, there is no price change for these configurations.

The 256GB option is no longer available on the Apple Vietnam website.

On the Apple Vietnam website, the Mac mini M4 was listed at 15 million VND for the 256 GB version. Currently, that option is no longer available. Customers can only purchase the 512 GB model, priced at 20.5 million VND.

At authorized dealers, the 16/256 GB option is still available. However, according to sources from Tri Thức - Znews , there is not much stock available for Mac mini models.

The standard 256GB Mac mini has actually been unavailable for order since last week. It has now been completely removed from the Apple website.

During the quarterly earnings call, CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that supplies of the Mac mini and Mac Studio are limited. He said it could take "several months" for Apple to achieve balance. The CEO called both models "great platforms for AI and autonomous agent tools," leading to higher-than-expected demand.

Earlier in March, Apple also discontinued the Mac Studio option with 512 GB of RAM.

Changes to the Mac mini and Mac Studio configurations are occurring amid a global memory chip shortage. Tim Cook said Apple expects "memory costs to be significantly higher" in the current quarter.
