Accordingly, Mr. Piyapong Pue-on and Mr. Chanwit Pholchiwin, former football star and coach of the Thai national team, respectively, are currently important members of the FAT Board of Directors during Madam Pang's term as president, and will contact directly with coach Jadet Meelarp of the Thai U.17 team.
Responding to the Thai press, Mr. Piyapong Pue-on confirmed: "Madam Pang asked us to urgently talk to coach Jadet Meelarp, after the U.17 team opened with a heavy loss to Uzbekistan. Ms. Pang and FAT highly value the U.17 team. She also did a lot to support and strengthen the team, such as inviting player Silva Mexes from England to play. Therefore, the loss on the opening day made us very disappointed."
"Madam Pang really hopes that the U.17 Thailand team will win a ticket to the World Cup. Therefore, in the remaining two matches, the team must find a chance again, although it will be very difficult. Mr. Chanwit Pholchiwin and I will contact coach Jadet Meelarp directly to analyze and evaluate the situation, as well as make suggestions on the application of playing tactics. The U.17 Thailand team has prepared very well, but the approach to the match is not as expected," said Mr. Piyapong Pue-on.
Accordingly, Mr. Piyapong Pue-on criticized the U.17 Thailand team for playing with a fearful mentality against the Uzbekistan team, while the two regional opponents, the U.17 Vietnam and Indonesia teams, both had opening matches against opponents that were considered stronger, but were not afraid.
Vietnam U.17 team played fairly when drawing with Australia U.17 team with a score of 1-1 in Group B, while Indonesia U.17 team shockingly defeated the current runner-up Korea U.17 team with a score of 1-0 in Group C.
"In the remaining two matches of the Thai U.17 team (in Group A), I suggest that the team should not play defensively. We must play with pressure from the beginning. We have the potential to do that. Other teams in the region are not afraid of their opponents. Therefore, there is no reason for the Thai team to be afraid of their opponents. To get to the World Cup, we must play even stronger," Mr. Piyapong Pue-on emphasized.
The U.17 Thailand team will play the second match in Group A of the 2025 AFC U-17 Championship against the host team U.17 Saudi Arabia at 00:15 on April 7. Next, they will meet the U.17 China team in the final match also at 00:15 on April 10.
These are the matches that the young "War Elephants" must win to regain the opportunity to compete for one of the top two spots in the group to continue and win a ticket to the 2025 U.17 World Cup finals in Qatar next November. In the opening match, U.17 Saudi Arabia beat China 2-1, and now, together with U.17 Uzbekistan (who beat Thailand 4-1), they share the top two positions in the group with 3 points each.
