To effectively implement the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, Vinh Phong commune focuses on reviewing cases of housing difficulties, thereby providing appropriate support solutions, ensuring transparency and targeting the right beneficiaries. Nguyen Chi Thanh, Secretary of the Vinh Phong Commune Party Committee, stated: “We recognize that caring for the housing of poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households is the responsibility of the entire political system. In addition to support from higher levels, the commune actively mobilizes organizations and individuals to contribute to helping people have stable housing, allowing them to work and produce with peace of mind.”

The commune's Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses was established, with specific tasks assigned to each member responsible for a particular area. Various organizations actively participated, providing labor support and assistance to disadvantaged households during construction, contributing to reduced construction costs. Visiting the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Thinh, residing in Ruong Sa 2 hamlet, we were impressed by his newly painted, single-story house. The walls were painted a soothing blue, the roof was made of sturdy corrugated iron, and the floor was neatly tiled. The house was built with a 60 million VND donation from the An Giang Lottery Company Limited, mobilized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune. Mr. Thinh emotionally shared: “Before, every time it rained heavily, the whole family was worried about leaks and drafts. Now that we have a new house, my wife and I can work with peace of mind and focus on our children's education.”
The joy of having a new home also came to the family of Mr. Le Duc Vinh, residing in Vinh Dong 1 hamlet, a near-poor household in the commune. Their thatched house was severely dilapidated, with leaks in many places. Their lives depended on hired labor, so the family couldn't afford repairs. Mr. Vinh confided: “For the past few years, every rainy season has been a worry for the whole family. Now that the local authorities have supported us in building a new house, my family is overjoyed. Having a stable place to live allows us to focus on our work and save for the future.” The family's new house is solidly built with a corrugated iron roof and tiled floor, costing over 60 million VND.
In addition to helping people settle down, Vinh Phong commune also focuses on supporting livelihoods so that people have the conditions to develop their family economies . Many suitable models have been implemented, creating more jobs and income for poor and near-poor households. This timely support helps them gradually stabilize their lives and awakens their will to rise out of poverty sustainably.
What is commendable is that the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has received great support from the people and the joint efforts of organizations, businesses, and philanthropists. During the house construction period, neighbors contributed labor, helped with construction, and transported materials; some helped a little, others helped a lot. These simple acts of kindness have strengthened neighborly bonds and further fostered community solidarity.
The newly built homes not only provide people with shelter from the rain and sun, but also instill faith in the care and concern of the Party, the State, and the local government. Therefore, the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Vinh Phong commune has a meaning that transcends mere material value. It also serves as a foundation to strengthen public support and create momentum for the locality's continued sustainable development in the future.
| Since the beginning of the year, Vinh Phong commune has mobilized social resources and encouraged organizations and businesses inside and outside the province to support the construction of 37 houses for poor, near-poor, and households with particularly difficult circumstances, with a total cost of over 2.1 billion VND. |
