"Golden Apricot Gratitude" comes to 2 artisans and athletes in Can Tho

On the afternoon of April 26, the program "Mai Vang Tri An" organized by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper with the support of Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank visited the excellent artist Minh Tho (real name is Nguyen Ba The; residing in Chau Van Liem ward, O Mon district, Can Tho city).

Artist Minh Tho is a member of the Vietnam Theater Association and the Can Tho City Literature and Arts Association. Artist Minh Tho is 76 years old this year but has been composing folk songs for 50 years, up to now he has composed more than 1,000 songs.

From 2002 to now, he has diligently researched and published 4 collections of works: Selected vọng cổ song collection "Ngã Bảy Night", compiled 2 collections "Luyen ca tài tử Nam Bộ" and "Cam Thi Giang". These are valuable documents about the traditional music genre, for those who want to research this genre.

The children all have their own families, and the couple lives with their grandchild, who is currently doing military service. All expenses are covered by artisan Minh Tho's pension.

On the same day, the delegation visited disabled athlete Tran Thanh Binh (56 years old; residing in An Binh ward, Ninh Kieu district) and could not help but feel sorry for his family situation. Mr. Binh is living in a charity house with his 2 children. Every day, he sells lottery tickets to support his 2 children's education.

However, he is still passionate about swimming. Whenever there is a competition, he stops selling lottery tickets to practice. He won many national athletics awards for people with disabilities in 2018 and 2019 (both gold medals), and in 2020 he won 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal.

At the visit to artist Minh Tho and athlete Tran Thanh Binh, Mr. Bui Thanh Liem, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, said that in January 2020, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Mai Vang Award, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper decided to launch the "Mai Vang Charity" program to join readers and philanthropists in taking care of the lives of artists with difficult family circumstances, illness, and need of help. Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank is the first unit to support the program.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2023, after 3 years of implementation, the program "Mai Vang Nhan Ai" temporarily closed phase 1, opening phase 2 with the name "Mai Vang Tri An". In addition to the artists who received attention and gifts, "Mai Vang Tri An" also targets a broader audience, such as teachers, scientists, intellectuals, people who have contributed a lot to society... but face difficulties in life.

At the meeting, Mr. Bui Thanh Liem, representatives of Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank and leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City presented artisan Minh Tho and athlete Tran Thanh Binh with 10 million VND each.

Athlete Tran Thanh Binh said he will save money to take care of his children's education.

According to Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, the department has researched people who have contributed to culture and sports but are in difficult circumstances to introduce them to the "Mai Vang Tri An" program to give them the right meaning and purpose of the program. "We are very grateful to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper and Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank for having a very meaningful program, promptly encouraging our brothers, helping them overcome difficulties in life to continue to contribute to life" - Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet expressed.

Receiving gifts from the program, artist Minh Tho and athlete Tran Thanh Binh were extremely moved. Mr. Binh expressed: "For my father and I, this is a huge amount of money. I will save it for my two children's education and thank the "Mai Vang Tri An" program for giving spiritual strength to the three of us."

Tomorrow, April 27, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Mekong Delta Representative Office, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper will have many activities in Can Tho City such as: Inauguration of the "National Flag Road", awarding scholarships to poor students, and the workshop "Enhancing Vietnamese agriculture and aquaculture".
