Malaysia is expected to win big against Laos in the near future. |
After a 3-0 victory in Vientiane, "Harimau Malaya" - the nickname of the Malaysian team - has a perfect opportunity to continue maintaining the winning streak when they play Laos again on the evening of October 14 in Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Under the leadership of coach Peter Cklamovski, Malaysia showed the image of a cohesive and attacking team.
In the first leg, the yellow team dominated the game with 71% possession, launched 26 shots - more than six times the opponent - and forced the Lao defense to constantly defend. Experts believe that, against an opponent that is much weaker in terms of physique, speed and technique - ranked 185th in the world - Malaysia can completely "open a goal party" right at Bukit Jalil.
Former national team coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan predicts the home team will opt for an all-out attacking style. “Playing at Bukit Jalil, I believe Cklamovski will push the team high from the start. In Vientiane, we created a lot of chances, and scoring only three goals was a bit too little given the game. Now, at home, Malaysia can do better,” he said.
Wan Jamak also said that Vietnam’s 5-0 win over Laos in March was a clear indication that Malaysia could do the same, or even better. “If the players maintain their focus and desire, a big win is within reach. A good pitch, a passionate crowd, that’s when ‘Harimau Malaya’ can play beautiful and effective football,” he added.
Malaysia is currently leading Group F with 9 absolute points after three matches, more than Vietnam (6 points) and Laos (3 points). Nepal is still empty-handed at the bottom of the table.
Facing a weak opponent and in a context of high morale, "Harimau Malaya" has the opportunity not only to consolidate the top position, but also to affirm its ambition to become the leading force in Southeast Asia under the Cklamovski dynasty.
