Bringing mother away, ready to 'attack' the US market

This is considered an important step in the journey of bringing Vietnamese films to the international market, especially when Take mother away has created a strong effect in the homeland since its premiere in early August, earning more than 162 billion VND at the box office (according to Box Office Vietnam).

Take mother away by Korean director Mo Hong Jin (famous for his films) Missing You ) revolves around a street barber (played by Tuan Tran) struggling to take care of his mother (Hong Dao) with late-stage Alzheimer's disease.

In a last-ditch effort to find better care for his mother, he decides to go to South Korea, hoping to send her to his half-brother whom he has never met.

The film conveys a message about family values, while also expanding on aspects of friendship, love and sharing in difficult circumstances.

'Mang Me Di Bo' and many other Vietnamese films open doors to international markets

Not only creating a buzz domestically, the film also attracted attention from Korean media. Major television stations such as SBS, MBC, KBS... reported on the film, showing interest in the Vietnamese-Korean co-production.

The issue of elderly care, especially when children have to balance work and filial piety towards their grandparents and parents, is an urgent and painful issue in both countries.

Besides two big stars of Vietnamese cinema, the film also features famous Korean actors such as Jung Il Woo and Go Kyung Pyo ( Reply 1988 ). On the Vietnamese side, young actress Juliet Bao Ngoc and comedians Quoc Khanh, Lam Vy Da, Vinh Rau and Hai Trieu also bring diverse colors to the film.

The film marks the reunion between Tuan Tran and Hong Dao after the resounding success of Tomorrow - The film still holds the record for the highest-grossing Vietnamese film of all time. The return of this duo is expected to create more appeal to international audiences.

Eastern Edge Films, a New Jersey-based distribution company founded by Jawahar Sharma, has acquired the distribution rights. Take mother away in North America. The company will work with Skyline Media to develop the distribution and promotion plan.
