The Europa Conference League may only be a "third-class" playground after two years of being born by UEFA, but this young and little-known tournament will certainly become a part of West Ham's history.
A first European title in more than half a century is more than just a trophy that the London club will proudly display in their trophy room for generations of fans to admire.
The final match was only exciting in the second half with a breathless score chase.
West Ham won the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup in 1965 while Fiorentina's last European triumph, also the Cup Winners' Cup, was even further back, in 1961.
Over the past half century, Fiorentina had a period of declaring bankruptcy and being relegated to Serie C2 in 2002, while West Ham was promoted and relegated to the Premier League many times. In the season that just ended, they even had to spend most of their time fighting to avoid relegation.

That is why the Europa Conference League final is so meaningful for both West Ham and Fiorentina, even though West Ham fans almost ruined the two teams' day with their excessive behavior.
They threw thin plastic cups onto the pitch every time Fiorentina attacked, "terrorizing" everyone from the Italian team's players to the female assistant referee because no one knew what else these hooligans could throw at any time.

The Fiorentina captain then had to continue playing with a bandage on his head.
In the 34th minute, the referee had to stop the match because Fiorentina's Cristiano Biraghi was bleeding from the head after being hit by a "rain" of glasses from West Ham fans.
In the final seconds of injury time at the end of the first half, Luka Jovic put the ball into the West Ham net but VAR had time to advise the referee about this offside situation.

In the second half, both teams played more openly. In the 58th minute, Fiorentina's Biraghi used his hand to block the ball in the penalty area and West Ham was awarded a penalty. From the 11m mark, Said Benrahma took a decisive shot to put the "Hammers" ahead.

It took Fiorentina less than five minutes to equalise. After a well-coordinated move, Giacomo Bonaventura handled the ball neatly before finishing with a tricky shot into the West Ham net. The two teams then played back-and-forth as neither side wanted to take the match into extra time.

Right at the last minute, Lucas Paqueta sent a through pass that tore through the Fiorentina defense for Jarod Bowen to run down and finish past goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano in a one-on-one position, sealing a 2-1 victory for West Ham.
