According to NDTV on July 22, the fire broke out as passengers were leaving the plane at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Air India said the twin-engine Airbus A321 suffered partial damage and was grounded pending investigation.
"The auxiliary power unit, or APU, was automatically shut down when the system detected a fire and the passengers and crew were safely deplaned," Air India said.

According to Times Of India, the plane was carrying 170 people at the time. The incident was reported to the Director General of Civil Aviation.
Earlier, on July 21, an Air India flight from Kochi to Mumbai skidded off the runway while landing, causing damage to both the plane and the runway.
"The incident occurred at 9:27 am on July 21 when Air India flight AI-2744 landed after departing from Kochi. The A320 aircraft landed on runway 27 but failed to maintain altitude on the runway during deceleration. The aircraft veered off the main runway, entered an unpaved area, and then crashed onto the taxiway before coming to a halt," the source said.
The plane also suffered damage to its engine casing but was able to taxi to the parking lot. Sources added that three of the plane’s tires blew out as it moved down the runway.
Later in the day, a flight from Delhi to Kolkata had to abort take-off at the last minute due to a "technical issue" detected during departure.
