New generation Mazda CX-5 "hot photos" revealed, waiting for launch

The third generation of the Mazda CX-5 brings a new design, modern technology and, for the first time, a hybrid engine option.

The leaked image appeared on Cochespias, sourced from Car Design News’ Instagram account. With lines that closely resemble camouflaged prototypes that have appeared during testing, the photo almost confirms the final design of the SUV. The silhouette still recalls the current CX-5 with familiar proportions and distinctive glass, but the body panels have been completely redesigned, giving it a sharper, more modern look.

One of the most noticeable changes is the headlights that extend into the grille – a style previously seen on the Mercedes-Benz EQC. The grille retains its signature shape but is refreshed with an interior pattern and a thin chrome border. The front of the car also becomes more impressive thanks to larger air intakes, while the front bumper remains neat, without being “colored” by fake air vents.

Mazda still retains the strong style of the new CX-5 with unpainted black plastic wheel covers, creating a solid feel. In the high-end versions, these details will likely be replaced with body-colored covers. Although the rear end does not appear in the photos, a series of previous test images show slim LED taillights and a pair of exposed dual exhaust pipes - a design reminiscent of BMW concept cars.

Unlike its siblings CX-60, CX-70 or CX-90 which have similar designs, the new CX-5 retains its own identity. This is also the point that helps the model not be overwhelmed by the CX-50 - a car with similar dimensions but with a sporty style.

In addition to the design, the interior of the CX-5 will likely be comprehensively upgraded, inheriting high-quality materials and technology from its predecessors. It is expected that the model will have a larger entertainment screen, a modern interface and a quality of finish approaching the luxury segment. It is not excluded that the size of the car will be slightly larger to meet the more diverse needs of families.

In terms of powertrain, Mazda has confirmed that it will launch a self-charging hybrid version of the new CX-5, using its all-new SkyActiv-Z engine. This engine promises improved fuel efficiency and increased power, but will not be available until late 2027. So the initial hybrids may use the old engine platform before switching to SkyActiv-Z.

Launched in 2016, the current CX-5 is due for a major makeover. The new version will likely be introduced globally in the coming weeks and could arrive in the US as a 2026 model.
