In a dribble into the penalty area in the 7th minute, the Argentine superstar collided with Raul Sanchez and Alexis Pena of Necaxa and fell to the ground. The referee did not award a penalty to Necaxa in this incident.
Messi tried to walk around for a few minutes but eventually had to leave the field in the 11th minute, making way for Federico Redondo.
"Leo is feeling discomfort in his hamstring," coach Javier Mascherano shared after the match. "We won't know the exact extent of the injury yet. It may not be too serious since he can still walk, but there is clearly some discomfort."

Messi has had numerous hamstring problems throughout his career and has missed a significant number of matches in recent seasons due to leg injuries. Most recently, he suffered a thigh muscle injury and missed two World Cup qualifying matches for Argentina earlier this year.
With this new injury, Messi will almost certainly miss the next match against Pumas UNAM on August 6th.
Prior to this match, Messi had played 30 games for Inter Miami in 2025 across all competitions, including the Concacaf Champions Cup, Club World Cup, Leagues Cup, and MLS. In MLS alone, he contributed 18 goals and 9 assists for the "Herons".
