Meta is implementing a system to collect data from its own employees to support the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The software is capable of recording mouse movements, keyboard actions, and capturing screenshots during work.

By recording employees' mouse and keyboard activity, Meta is facing questions about its labor supervision practices.
This program is part of the company's larger strategy to promote the application of AI in operations. Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth said Meta aims for a work environment where AI agents handle the majority of tasks, while humans play a supervisory, evaluation, and performance improvement role.
A Meta representative asserted that data collected from the system would not be used to evaluate individual performance and that measures were in place to protect sensitive information. However, such detailed tracking still raised internal privacy concerns.
This move comes as Meta is undergoing a major restructuring focused on AI. The company has established dedicated teams to automate product development and deployment processes, and has restructured many job positions to be more AI-related.
In addition, a plan to cut approximately 10% of the global workforce, expected to begin in late May, was also announced, with the possibility of further adjustments in the future.
Legal issues also arise as there are no consistent regulations across regions regarding employee monitoring using technology. In the US, federal law does not limit employee monitoring, while in some European countries, monitoring methods such as keyboard recording may be restricted or only permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Experts argue that expanding internal data collection on a large scale could create risks related to privacy and legal compliance, especially as businesses increasingly rely on data to develop AI.
