On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Metro Line 1 was packed with passengers. Many people who bought tickets had to wait for hours before they could board the train.
On January 29 (the first day of the Lunar New Year), metro trains No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) were packed with people going out for spring. This is the first year the metro line in Ho Chi Minh City has been operating, serving the Lunar New Year.
People packed on metro trains number 1.
According to records, from early morning to evening, people in Ho Chi Minh City and many neighboring provinces flocked to metro stations.
Some crowded stations such as Ben Thanh, City Theater, Thao Dien, Thu Duc... Everyone takes advantage of the Tet holiday to experience the modern railway.
Inside the train station lobby, people were standing in long lines, patiently waiting for their turn. The train exits were also packed with people.
This bustling atmosphere is similar to the early days of metro line 1's operation, when people flocked to the stations to experience modern transportation.
Many people who waited for a long time gave up, returned, or angrily reacted to the station staff.
The metro station halls were packed with people.
Mr. Thanh Nguyen ( Binh Duong ) said that his family went to Ho Chi Minh City to visit a pagoda and experience the metro. Although they bought tickets at 4:00 p.m., it was not until 5:30 p.m. that the family could get on the train. Waiting and queuing for too long made everyone tired and frustrated.
"I didn't expect it to be so crowded. I stood in line waiting for a long time but it was still my turn. I wanted to go back but felt sorry for waiting for more than an hour. It was truly a memorable experience at the beginning of the year," said Mr. Nguyen.
Meanwhile, Ms. Minh Hang (Thu Duc City) said she waited for more than an hour to get on the metro train from Thu Duc station to Ben Thanh station. The train was packed with people.
"I couldn't imagine it would be so crowded. The train passed through the stations but passengers couldn't get on because there wasn't enough space," said Ms. Hang.
The trains were packed with people, many passengers at the station could not board the train.
On the evening of January 29, Ms. Van Thi Huu Tam, Deputy Director of Urban Railway Company No. 1 (the metro operator) informed that due to the situation of too many people using the metro and overloaded trains, this unit has proposed the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport to increase the number of metro trains.
With the agreement of the Department of Transport, from the afternoon of the first day of Tet, the company will increase the number of trips with a 9-minute interval between each trip. Operating time is from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Previously, according to the plan, on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd days of Tet, the metro line will run 156 trips/day, with an interval of 12 - 15 - 18 minutes. On the 4th and 5th days of Tet, there will be 160 trips/day, with an interval of 12 - 15 - 18 minutes/trip. From the 6th onwards, the metro will run 200 trips/day, with an interval of 10 - 12 - 15 minutes/trip.
