Regarding the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong Metro Line 2 project, Mr. Phan Cong Bang, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board, stated that compensation, support, and land clearance have been 100% completed. It is expected that the relocation of technical infrastructure facilities will be completed by early 2026, and the project will commence on January 15, 2026.
According to MAUR leaders, the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong metro line has a total length of 11.269km, of which the underground section is 9.255km and the elevated section is 0.846km, with a total estimated investment of approximately 57,000 billion VND, using funds from the city's budget. The entire line has 10 underground stations, 1 elevated station and 1 depot.
"This is Ho Chi Minh City's first key project applying special mechanisms and policies according to Resolution No. 188. It is large-scale, technically complex, and passes through a densely populated urban area. Recently, the City People's Committee approved the technology plan to be applied to Metro Line 2, and at the same time requested the Ministry of Construction to consider and agree on the list of main regulations and standards to be applied to the project," Mr. Phan Cong Bang informed.
MAUR leaders also stated that, according to the proposed plan, this metro line will be upgraded to GoA4 automation level, meaning fully automated operation with no train drivers or personnel on board. The selection of new technology adheres to the following principles: applying European standards, integrating advanced technology, and fully complying with current Vietnamese regulations and standards.
Upon completion, Metro Line 2 will serve as the backbone connecting the city center with the northwestern area, meeting the public passenger transport needs on the East-West corridor, along the Ben Thanh - Cach Mang Thang Tam - Truong Chinh - Tham Luong axis.
This line is also expected to enhance connectivity with other planned urban railway lines, contributing to reducing traffic congestion, improving the urban environment, and raising the quality of life for residents.
