Let's chat with Ms. Nguyen Quynh Tram - General Director - who has also just made a remarkable personal mark with the "Most Inspiring Leader in Asia 2023" award.
Ms. Nguyen Quynh Tram.
- Hello Ms. Nguyen Quynh Tram, we understand that Microsoft Vietnam has just been honored as the "Innovative Technology Enterprise of Asia 2023". Could you share your feelings about this good news?
We are deeply honored to be recognized as the Asia Innovative Technology Enterprise 2023 this year. This is a very meaningful award, a testament to the dedication and unwavering spirit of innovation of all Microsoft Vietnam employees in creating advanced, sustainable products, solutions, and technologies that bring value to customers, partners, and the community.
Recognized as a pioneering company in the technology field, what has Microsoft done differently from its competitors in the market?
Microsoft has consistently maintained a pioneering position for over four decades, from the computer revolution to the era of cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI).
Microsoft has invested heavily in and responsibly integrated AI into everyday life, transforming this technology into a powerful virtual "assistant." This strategic decision stems from the company's mission to empower individuals and organizations worldwide with technology to achieve greater success.
In Vietnam, we have partnered with Trusting Social, a pioneering AI company in the financial sector, to launch Agent Foundry, a platform providing specialized virtual assistants for businesses. We have also collaborated with VinBrain in developing DrAid™, Vietnam's first AI platform for comprehensive screening, diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases, and hospital management.
- You were also honored with the "Most Inspiring Leader in Asia 2023" award. What does this award mean to you and your business?
This award is not just for me personally, but above all, it is the result of the collective efforts of my colleagues at Microsoft Vietnam. I sincerely thank everyone who has always placed their trust in me, supported me, and committed to overcoming challenges together to better support individuals, organizations, and businesses in Vietnam.
Furthermore, the award is also a great opportunity for me to connect with and learn from leaders and organizations across the Asian region.
- Speaking of your colleagues at Microsoft Vietnam, could you share how you inspire your employees every day?
First, we encourage learning. This stems from Microsoft's own corporate culture of learn-it-all. Microsoft's goal is to create a learning culture that helps employees develop personally and professionally.
Secondly, it's about empowerment. "Hand-holding" isn't my style. I focus on coaching and empowering the team to get the job done and reach their full potential.
Thirdly, there's empathy. I value humility in accepting success and tolerance for failure. Everyone has the right to make mistakes; what's important is that they are given the opportunity to correct their mistakes, learn, be empowered, and do better afterward.
And finally, there's the influence of leadership in fostering corporate culture. Microsoft's work environment has inspired me, and vice versa.
- What major challenges have you faced? How did you develop your leadership style to overcome those challenges?
One of the most challenging obstacles that Microsoft Vietnam and I faced was the COVID-19 pandemic. I had to make difficult decisions, maintain flexibility, resilience, and optimism to energize my employees, and support my partners in resolving customer issues.
From that experience, I learned how to lead with empathy, quick thinking, and purpose. I also realized the importance of maintaining a strong vision and a calm mind, communicating purposefully and clearly, and leveraging the support and advice of trusted friends and colleagues.
- Do you have any advice for young leaders who are on the path to establishing their leadership abilities?
From a personal perspective, I believe that every leader has their own strengths and abilities. Instead of seeing myself as a leader, I see myself more as a coach. I always encourage my team members to be creative, to think outside the box, to take initiative, and not to be limited by existing norms.
On the journey to success, we will face many difficulties and failures, but don't let them diminish your optimism. Instead, consider them valuable lessons to learn from, change, and grow better.
Thank you for the conversation!
Bao Anh
