Central Vietnam commences and inaugurates numerous key transportation projects.

On the morning of December 19th, in Hue City, Da Nang City, and Gia Lai province, key transportation projects of strategic importance to the socio-economic development of the entire Central region were simultaneously launched and inaugurated.

At the Gia Lai location, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung attended the groundbreaking ceremony for two component projects of the Quy Nhon – Pleiku expressway and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Center project in Quy Nhon Bac and Quy Nhon Tay wards. Also on this occasion, Gia Lai province, in coordination with the Ministry of Construction, commenced the construction of two component projects of the Quy Nhon – Pleiku expressway, including component project 1 (Eastern area) and component project 3 (Western area) .

According to Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, the Quy Nhon – Pleiku expressway is 125km long, with 4 lanes, a design speed of 100km/hour, and a total investment of 43,734 billion VND, to be implemented in the period 2025–2029. This is a nationally important project, strengthening East-West connectivity and linking the Central Highlands with the South Central coastal region. Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang requested relevant units to expedite land clearance, strictly manage quality and progress, ensure safety, and comply with regulations.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Ngoc (69 years old, residing in Thuan Duc residential area, An Nhon ward) expressed her delight at the government's investment in the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway project. Although her family's land will be completely cleared, she said she still trusts the project and is willing to give up her land, hoping for fair compensation and better living conditions in the resettlement area. "We hope the expressway will be completed soon, facilitating travel for people and businesses, and speeding up the transportation of goods. This will contribute to a prosperous nation," Ms. Ngoc said.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Center project, invested byFPT Group, covers an area of ​​11.13 hectares with a total capital of 613 billion VND, including: an AI research center, a UAV testing area, and a data center. Once fully operational, the center is expected to attract 4,000–5,000 experts, contributing to the formation of a high-tech ecosystem in Gia Lai.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung emphasized that, in the modern development trend, artificial intelligence (AI) is profoundly impacting all fields, becoming a key technological foundation that determines competitiveness and sustainable development. The enactment of the Law on Digital Industry by the 15th National Assembly on June 14, 2025, is a necessary step, creating a legal basis for the proactive, safe, and controlled development of AI in Vietnam.

The government has identified AI as one of the strategic technologies, along with core technologies such as semiconductors, cloud computing, telecommunications, and cybersecurity, to enhance technological self-reliance, ensure national defense and security, and promote long-term growth.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung highly appreciated FPT's systematic investment in core technologies and expressed confidence that the AI ​​Center in Gia Lai will gradually become a leading AI center in Southeast Asia and Asia.

Also during this period, Gia Lai province simultaneously commenced construction on several projects, including: the project connecting the North-South Expressway to Phu My Industrial Park (total investment of VND 2,115 billion); the project connecting National Highway 1 to the coastal road (DT.639) connecting to De Gi Port (VND 1,432 billion); the Binh Nghi Industrial Park project (VND 1,460 billion); the project to expand and increase the capacity of An Khe Sugar Factory (Phase 2, total investment of VND 1,170 billion); the project to build mixed-use apartment buildings in Quy Nhon Nam ward (VND 3,508 billion); and project number 2 (2-2), Nhon Ly - Cat Tien coastal tourism area (VND 2,584 billion).

* In Da Nang , the People's Committee of Da Nang City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to connect National Highway 14B with the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway (located in Ba Na commune).

This is a special-grade transportation project with a total investment of over 537 billion VND, expected to be completed on June 5, 2027. Upon completion, this interchange will reduce traffic pressure, improve connectivity between National Highway 14B and the Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway, and contribute to the completion of gateway infrastructure, serving the socio-economic development of the southwestern area of ​​Da Nang City.

Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, said that the project has strategic significance, definitively resolving the traffic safety issues at the existing intersection; and at the same time maximizing the efficiency of the expressways.

Earlier that day, the Ministry of Construction, in coordination with the People's Committee of Hue City and the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province, commenced the project to expand the North-South Expressway (Eastern section) from Cam Lo to La Son.

This expressway is approximately 98.73km long, starting in Cam Hieu commune (Quang Tri province), adjacent to the Van Ninh – Cam Lo section, and ending in Hung Loc commune (Hue City), connecting with the La Son – Hoa Lien expressway.

The Ministry of Construction, in coordination with the People's Committee of Hue City and the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province, commenced the project to expand the North-South Expressway (Eastern section) from Cam Lo to La Son.

The project is being implemented in phases, expanding from a 2-lane to a full 4-lane highway. The total investment is approximately 6,463 billion VND, funded by the central government budget, and is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2026. Upon completion, the Cam Lo - La Son expressway will contribute to improving the operational capacity of the eastern North-South axis, reducing congestion on National Highway 1, shortening travel time, and ensuring traffic safety.
