Central Vietnam: Hot weather after floods

On June 17th, the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen experienced hot weather with temperatures at 1 PM generally ranging from 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 36 degrees Celsius in some places.

The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting warns that the lowest humidity levels of the day, ranging from 55 to 65%, will cause a distinctly hot and dry feeling.

According to the national meteorological agency, over the next two days (June 18th and 19th), the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen will continue to experience hot weather, with some areas experiencing intense heat. The highest daily temperatures will generally range from 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas possibly exceeding 37 degrees Celsius. The lowest humidity will remain at 55-60%.

During the same period, the Northern Delta region is also likely to experience localized heatwaves, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius in some areas. Forecasts indicate that the heatwave in Central Vietnam will gradually subside from around June 20th.

Meanwhile, on June 17th, the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall. Forecasts indicate that this evening and tonight, the Northern region will continue to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall, generally ranging from 15-30mm, and possibly exceeding 70mm in some locations.

In the Central Highlands and Southern regions, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening, with localized heavy rainfall of 10-30mm, and in some places over 50mm.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is providing Quang Tri province with 130 tons of seeds.

* On June 17th, the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) announced that Deputy Minister Hoang Trung, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, signed a decision to release 130 tons of purebred Khang Dan 18 rice seeds from the national reserve to support Quang Tri province in overcoming the consequences of Typhoon No. 1, after the locality submitted a request for assistance.

These seeds will be distributed free of charge by Thua Thien Hue Seed and Livestock Joint Stock Company. The Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee is responsible for receiving, managing, and using them for the intended purpose in accordance with current regulations, and is fully responsible for the damage figures as well as the effectiveness of the support.

* According to reports from localities as of June 16th, Typhoon No. 1 and the resulting floods have caused 9 deaths (4 in Quang Binh, 3 in Quang Tri, and 2 in Hue), damaged 99 houses (roofs blown off), flooded over 59,000 hectares of rice and other crops, and damaged or sunken aquaculture farms (over 2,300 hectares and 324 fish cages and 8 boats).
