Milan changes direction, Hojlund deal deadlocked

Plans to send Hojlund to AC Milan on loan are in danger of collapsing, as the Milanese side are close to agreeing a loan deal for Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen.

Hojlund was in a situation where he could neither leave nor stay.

According to BBC Sport , this was the turning point that caused the deal involving Hojlund to come to a standstill.

Initially, Milan showed great interest in Hojlund and even negotiated a season-long loan for the Danish striker. However, disagreements arose over the purchase clause: Manchester United did not want to include a binding obligation, while Milan were not really ready to make a long-term bet. This caused the negotiation process to stall.

In that context, Milan quickly pivoted to Victor Boniface, the 24-year-old striker who had been a key player in Bayer Leverkusen's journey to the Bundesliga title under Xabi Alonso two seasons ago. However, the agreement between Milan and Leverkusen only stopped at the "right to buy" instead of being bound to pay after the loan period.

On the other hand, Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford is increasingly uncertain. After Manchester United spent big to recruit Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for a fee that could reach £74 million, Hojlund lost his place in the squad. The clearest evidence is that the 22-year-old striker was not named in the squad for the Premier League opener against Arsenal, and was also placed in the “not in the plan” group by coach Ruben Amorim, along with Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho.

MU bought Sesko, causing Hojlund to lose his position.

This is in contrast to Hojlund's previous statement that he would stay to fight for his place after two lackluster seasons at Old Trafford. Being left out of the list right from the first round of the Premier League can be seen as a signal that the former Atalanta striker's chances of playing are almost zero if he continues to stick with the "Red Devils".

While Boniface was an unused substitute in the German Cup last weekend, the futures of both young strikers remain uncertain. Leverkusen open their Bundesliga campaign against Hoffenheim, while Milan appear to be ready to put their faith in Boniface over Hojlund.

With the current developments, the possibility of Hojlund arriving at San Siro is getting smaller. From what seemed like a smooth sailing, the deal is in danger of collapsing completely, leaving the Danish striker with an uncertain season in Manchester United's shirt.
