The Vietnam MMA Federation admitted fault for the refereeing error in the match between Robson de Oliveira and Tran Ngoc Luong.
On April 26, MMA Vietnam held a professional meeting to evaluate and handle violations related to the match. MMA Vietnam admitted that the three judges who scored the match made a mistake in their judgment of the match result when they awarded Tran Ngoc Luong the victory over Robson Oliveira.
Vietnam MMA apologized to the fighters, clubs directly affected, and fans at home and abroad. However, the Federation affirmed that this mistake was not negative. "The error was due to the professional level and judgment of the individual judges," the Federation wrote in a press release on April 27. "Especially the judgment of the judges scoring first and second."
MMA Vietnam will stop officiating for the rest of the 2023 LION Championship (LC) season with referee one Ngo Quoc Thang and referee two Tran Trung Nghia. Referee three Nguyen Dang Khoa will stop officiating for the next three events including 06, 07 and 08.

In addition, the Vietnam MMA Professional Board will plan to organize a rematch for Oliveira and Ngoc Luong as soon as possible.
The match between Oliveira and Ngoc Luong was in the 60kg category at the 2023 LION Championship. The Brazilian boxer showed his superiority thanks to effective grappling, take-downs and striking. However, two out of three judges gave the home boxer the victory with scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 28-29 after three rounds.
After the match, Oliveira was upset and left early, not accepting the prize. Coach Gilberto Bottiglieri said that this was the worst cheating he had ever seen in an MMA match, and declared that he would never return to compete in MMA in Vietnam. Many fans present at Rach Mieu Stadium that day also booed and protested the results of the organizing committee.
In fact, the tournament organizers consider both Robson Oliveira and Tran Ngoc Luong to be two capable fighters. The result of the match on April 22 in the B category does not affect the plan to promote both of them to the A category at the LC06 event on June 3.
MMA Vietnam hopes that fighter Robson Oliveira and coach Gilberto Bottiglieri will trust the organizers' openness and transparency, thereby changing their decision and continuing to participate in MMA tournaments in Vietnam.
