During the 2020-2025 term, despite facing many difficulties, the province's forestry sector still made great strides, with a forest coverage rate of 62.2%, ranking third nationwide; an average of more than 15,000 hectares of new forest were planted each year; more than 1.3 million m³ of wood was exploited; forestry production value increased by an average of more than 9% per year, higher than the previous period.
Linking businesses and farmers to create sustainable value chains
Tan Thuong village, Minh Thanh commune has more than 98% Dao ethnic people with 79 households. Previously, people's lives faced many difficulties, the poverty rate was high. Since 2015, thanks to the promotion of forest economic development, the rural face here has changed significantly, many households have escaped poverty, built spacious houses. Currently, the whole village has about 300 hectares of production forest; income from forest planting helps people accumulate, stabilize their lives, and increase their income.
Mr. Luong Van Truong's family in Tan Thuong village has more than 9 hectares of acacia forest, which has been exploited three times. Mr. Truong said that thanks to good care, the acacia hills have grown evenly, the trees are seven years old or older, and the value is from 80-100 million VND/ha. From planting forests, his family has built a spacious house, bought enough living facilities, had conditions for their children to study, and their life is increasingly prosperous. Forest economy is becoming an effective direction, helping the Dao people in Tan Thuong stabilize their lives, contributing to building new rural areas.
Over the years, Hung Huong Production and Trading Company Limited, Yen Son Commune has become a reliable support for forest growers in the region, when it undertakes to purchase all forest wood products. The company purchases, classifies and supplies raw materials from the people after exploitation to An Hoa and Bai Bang paper factories and wood processing enterprises for export in the province. Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Director of Hung Huong Company, said: The prospect for developing the local wood processing export industry is very large.
To ensure a stable source of raw materials, the company always closely cooperates with the people, purchasing all products, and supporting seeds, fertilizers, and forest planting techniques. This connection not only helps farmers feel secure in production but also creates conditions for businesses to expand their scale. The close cooperation between businesses and people has contributed to the formation of a sustainable chain, increasing the economic value of planted forests and promoting the development of the province's wood processing industry.
Woodsland Tuyen Quang Joint Stock Company, located in Yen Son Industrial Park, is a large unit located in the province, specializing in the production and processing of interior and exterior wood, exporting to many demanding markets such as the US, EU, and Japan. Since the beginning of 2025, the company has processed more than 20,000 m3 of wood of all kinds, creating jobs for more than 2,500 workers. The company currently has factories located in key plantation wood raw material areas of the province, creating a closed circle of value chain links from producers to processors and export services.
Forestry breakthrough for green economy
Currently, the whole province has more than 500 wood processing establishments; of which, 8 large enterprises have modern factories with processing capacity from 20,000 to 130,000 m3 per year. Products of companies in Long Binh An Industrial Park, Yen Son Industrial Cluster, Binh Vang Industrial Park, Nam Quang Industrial Cluster such as tables, chairs, furniture, planks, plywood, wood pellets, sawn timber, peeled timber... are being exported to markets in India, China, Korea, the US, Japan and Europe.
Currently, there are 4 forestry companies that have joint ventures and partnerships with local people to plant forests, purchasing all forest wood products. Notably, more than 89,000 hectares of forest in the province have been granted a sustainable management certificate (FSC). This is an important "passport" for Tuyen Quang wood products to confidently enter the international market, and at the same time, a foundation for participating in the carbon credit market.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Pham Manh Duyet said: From the results achieved in the period of 2020-2025, the province has drawn many lessons. First of all, forestry development must be linked to people's livelihoods. When forests bring stable income, people will stick with and protect the forests. In particular, promoting the strength of the "4 houses" connection: the State guides policies, scientists provide technology, businesses purchase products and people directly produce.
This linkage helps to form a closed value chain, increasing the value of planted forest wood. Along with that, innovating management, applying science and technology, digital transformation, creating a more modern and transparent foundation for the whole industry. Entering the 2025-2030 term, the province aims to maintain a forest cover rate of 62.2%; planting 50,000 hectares of new forest; increasing the FSC forest area to more than 100,000 hectares; planted forest productivity reaching 22 m3/ha/year; planted forest wood value reaching 174 million VND/ha (7-year cycle) and 317 million VND/ha (10-year cycle).
Aiming to build a high-tech forestry zone and turn Tuyen Quang into a large wood production and processing center of the country, the FSC wood capital of Vietnam. To achieve the goal of sustainable forestry development, Tuyen Quang has determined to synchronously deploy many solutions; including promoting the application of science and technology and digital transformation in forest management, focusing on in-depth forest development.
Instead of small-scale logging, the province encourages intensive large-scale timber cultivation, expanding the area of FSC-certified forests, closely linking forest planting with deep processing and export. The application of biotechnology in the production of high-quality forestry varieties such as hybrid acacia and super-light organic pots has helped increase forest productivity by 20-30%, creating a foundation for sustainable production. Another promising direction is to participate in the carbon market, creating additional income for forest growers.
Along with that, mechanizing the planting, care and exploitation stages helps save costs, increase productivity; train forestry staff and workers to master new technologies. Maintain effective companionship between enterprises and people; enterprises not only consume products but also support seeds, capital, and techniques, so people can feel secure in their attachment to the forest. From there, the forestry industry forms a closed value chain, enhances competitiveness and affirms its brand in the international market. With strategic vision and synchronous solutions, Tuyen Quang forestry economy is facing a great opportunity to break through, contributing to the development of green economy, environmental protection and creating a sustainable life.
