The sale of Alvaro Carreras to Real Madrid helped Benfica pocket 50 million euros. In January 2024, the Portuguese club only had to pay 6 million euros to bring this defender to play from MU. Despite having to pay 20% of the transfer fee to the "Red Devils" (about 10 million euros), Benfica still made a big profit from this deal.

The Carreras deal is a testament to Benfica’s smart transfer strategy. Over the past decade, the club has recorded a turnover of more than €800 million from transfers, with the difference between the income from player sales (over €1.3 billion) and the money spent (€625 million).

Carreras is a prime example of Benfica's smart investment. Arriving at the Da Luz Stadium as a promising youngster, the defender was developed and honed through major tournaments, before becoming a target for big clubs like Real Madrid.

In the past, Benfica stood out with its excellent training system, constantly producing top talents. Famous faces such as Joao Felix (127 million euros to Atlético Madrid), Enzo Fernandez (121 million euros to Chelsea), or Darwin Nunez (85 million euros to Liverpool) helped Benfica make a lot of profit and invest in other promising faces.

Currently, Benfica also owns many faces sought after by big names such as center back Antonio Silva, along with the striker duo Vangelis Pavlidis and Kerem Akturkoglu. The team will continue to maintain its position as the "gold mine" of European football, thanks to its skillful trading skills.

Not only Benfica, other clubs in Portugal are also famous in this aspect. Sporting CP and Porto both recorded a turnover of nearly 400 million euros from transfers, while Sporting Braga earned more than 250 million euros.

PSG overwhelms Real Madrid Early morning of July 10, PSG beat Real 4-0 to win a ticket to the FIFA Club World Cup final to meet Chelsea.
