Recently, the People's Committee of Dong Van commune, old Ha Giang (now in Tuyen Quang province) announced that tourists should temporarily stop visiting the "death rock" from September 8 to September 16.

Accordingly, local authorities recommend that tourists do not travel on the route from the youth volunteer monument to the rock outcrop and nearby paths.

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Pham Duc Nam, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of Dong Van Commune People's Committee, said that "death rock" or "virtual rock" is a popular destination for tourists when coming to Pai Lung commune, Meo Vac district (old).

In recent days, the military command of Dong Van commune has coordinated with the youth union to build stone fences in Seo Sa Lung village, the road leading to the "death cliff" area. The temporary suspension of receiving visitors allows the locality to renovate and repair the road system and build more railings to ensure the safety of tourists.

After the renovations are complete, visitors will need to wear seatbelts to take pictures and will no longer be able to sit and pose freely as before. The local authorities plan to assign more people to manage the area to ensure the safety of visitors and will not charge an entrance fee.

Mr. Nam said that in recent years, this area has welcomed a large number of visitors to experience the experience, but there are many potential risks. Previously, in March 2023, a British tourist was injured while climbing to the "death cliff" to take photos.

It is known that while this tourist was taking pictures, a rock fell from above and hit him. The victim fell and injured his left leg. At that time, local leaders said that the location of the rock was dangerous, with many large rocks stacked on top of each other but not stable.

The rock where tourists often stand to take pictures has a smooth surface and no protective railing, so it is very easy to slip and fall.

Similarly, in January 2021, a backpacker from Son La also had a similar incident when he came here to take pictures. The victim slipped and fell into the rocky crevice below. Due to the road having many sharp rocks, this person suffered a deep cut on his thigh and many abrasions on his body.

"Death Rock" has become a big attraction for domestic and international tourists recently when many photos and videos taken here became popular on social networking platforms.

It is a rock jutting out from the mountain in a precarious position. However, many people still want to test their courage, climbing out to align the unique angle of the photo.

In order to ensure the safety of visitors, the local authorities have frequently warned visitors not to climb the cliff to take pictures. The local authorities have even placed warning signs and erected fences to block the way to the cliff.
