Unexpected Tet gift from poor worker couple who traveled thousands of kilometers to return home

On the afternoon of the 27th of Tet, Mr. Bui Van Doan (31 years old) was driving on the National Highway 1 bypass, through Hung Nguyen district ( Nghe An ) when he saw the signal of the Traffic Police (CSGT), so he immediately drove to the side of the road.

"We are the Traffic Police of Dien Chau Traffic Police Station, on patrol and control duty on this route. We send you a Tet gift, wish you a safe journey, good luck in the new year, and comply with traffic regulations to ensure safety for yourself and other road users," said Captain Tran Anh Tuan.

Mr. Doan's tired, dusty face was a little confused but quickly relaxed. He happily accepted the Tet gift from the traffic police officer.

Mr. Doan and his wife are from Thanh Hoa, and came to Da Lat, Lam Dong province to work as factory workers. "Due to the difficult economic situation, we could not book bus tickets, so my wife and I decided to ride our motorbikes back to our hometown. We left on the morning of December 26, and expected to arrive home this afternoon, December 27," said Mr. Doan.

The journey of more than 1,000km made him quite tired, his back and shoulders ached. The roads were crowded with vehicles during Tet, so Mr. Doan drove slowly, resting when tired to ensure safety, so the journey took longer than expected.

"This is the third time we have received gifts on the way home. The previous two times we received drinking water, this time we received candy, which means we have more gifts for our children. The long journey is tiring but we feel much warmer," Doan shared.

To save some money on Tet shopping, Hoang Thi Van (Quynh Thanh, Quynh Luu, Nghe An) and her husband decided to ride a motorbike from Quang Binh. With a small child in tow, Van's husband moved quite slowly. When he saw the traffic police signal to move to the side of the road, he quickly complied.

Receiving the Tet gift basket of candy, tea, and soft drinks from the hands of the traffic police officer, Ms. Van's face showed surprise and joy. She happily shared about the journey of more than 300km to her hometown to celebrate Tet with her family.

"My husband and I work as workers in Quang Binh, so we ride a motorbike home to save money, even though the roads are crowded during Tet and it's quite difficult to travel. We leave at 5am and go slowly, safety is paramount," said Ms. Valve.

The female worker was even happier when she had a gift from the traffic police in her luggage when returning home for Tet. She also expressed her gratitude for the care, support and sharing of the traffic police force of Nghe An Province towards poor workers returning home for Tet like her and her husband.

On the morning and afternoon of February 6 (December 27), dozens of Tet gifts were handed out to passersby by officers and soldiers of Dien Chau Traffic Police Station. Along with giving gifts, the Traffic Police force also propagated and reminded people to drive at the correct speed, ensure safety when participating in traffic, and absolutely not participate in traffic after consuming alcohol.

According to Major Hoang Manh Hung - Head of Dien Chau Traffic Police Station, Traffic Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police - this is the third year the unit has organized Tet gifts for traffic participants in difficult circumstances, from contributions from officers and soldiers.

"Together with patrolling and controlling to ensure traffic safety, the unit will step up propaganda to comply with regulations on the Road Traffic Law, especially regulations on handling alcohol concentration violations to traffic participants during Tet holidays.

Besides, we want to bring a little joy to traffic participants, especially workers returning from far away from home, and wish everyone safe traffic and a warm and peaceful Tet holiday," said Major Hung.
