One student died, two teachers were buried in a landslide, the Ministry of Education and Training sent a letter of condolences.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, sent a letter of condolences to the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An and the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa after the recent floods.

According to the letter, the Ministry of Education and Training received news that the recent prolonged floods in Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces have caused many losses in human lives, facilities, schools, teaching equipment, textbooks, greatly affecting teachers' teaching plans and students' learning.

In Thanh Hoa, student Le Nhat Minh (class 8C, Luong Noi Secondary School, Ba Thuoc district) died from drowning.

In Nghe An, teachers Luong Thi Thanh Thuy and Vong Thi Thuong (teachers at Luu Kien Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Tuong Duong district) were buried by a landslide on their way home from school. Luckily, they were rescued in time by local people.

"On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, I would like to express my condolences to student Le Nhat Minh and send my deepest condolences to his family, school, and friends where he is studying.

I would like to thank the people of Ang village, Xa Luong commune and the rescue force of Tuong Duong district, Nghe An province for promptly rescuing and helping teachers Luong Thi Thanh Thuy and Vong Thi Thuong. I hope the two teachers will recover quickly and stabilize their psychology so they can return to work soon," Minister Nguyen Kim Son wrote in the letter.

The Minister also shared the difficulties that teachers and students in the education sector of Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces are facing and overcoming to ensure the completion of this school year's plan and tasks.

The Ministry requested that education departments continue to direct educational institutions to have plans to ensure safety for teachers and students during the flood season; proactively overcome damage, ensure facilities, enough learning materials and textbooks for students; clean schools and classrooms to soon return to normal teaching and learning activities.

At the same time, Minister Nguyen Kim Son requested that Party committees, authorities, and organizations continue to pay attention to, direct, and support the education sector to improve its capacity to prevent and mitigate natural disasters in schools; ensuring safety for teachers, administrators, education staff, and students.
