On May 25, the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases recorded one death due to rabies. This was a 38-year-old woman from Vinh Phuc .
Accordingly, this female patient was transferred from Vinh Phuc General Hospital to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases with typical symptoms of rabies such as: fear of water, fear of wind, nausea, mild fever, difficulty swallowing, inability to drink, panic, and irritation when there is noise. Medical history showed that 3 months before being admitted to the hospital, while feeding the dog, this woman was bitten on the hand and back by her pet dog but subjectively did not get a rabies vaccination. 5 days later, the dog broke the chain, ran to the neighbor's house with a ferocious expression and was beaten to death by the people.
At the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, the female patient was tested and the results confirmed rabies. After hearing the doctor explain that the patient's condition had worsened, the family asked to go home and the patient died at home. Doctor Than Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the Emergency Department, recommended that when people are bitten by a dog, the first thing to do is to go immediately to the nearest medical facility for doctors to advise and vaccinate against rabies. At the same time, people also need to proactively have their dogs fully vaccinated against rabies.
