A meaningful work that needs to be replicated

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên19/11/2023

As Thanh Nien reported, in recent days, social networks have been buzzing about an open letter on the eve of Vietnam Teachers' Day, November 20, sent by the Principal of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School (District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) Dinh Phu Cuong to benefactors and parents of students. The open letter reads: "Every year, on Vietnam Teachers' Day, November 20, the school receives many congratulatory flower baskets and cakes. However, these flowers and cakes are only used for one day and then thrown away, which is a waste."

"This year, due to the difficult economic situation after the pandemic, through this open letter, the school respectfully requests that instead of giving flowers and cakes, businesses and parents of students please change to giving health insurance cards for students so that the school can distribute them to students in difficulty," according to the open letter.

The school currently records 89 disadvantaged students who cannot afford health insurance cards. The value of each health insurance card is 680,400 VND, valid for 12 months in 2024. In the open letter, the school expressed its desire to receive support and sharing from benefactors and parents to help disadvantaged students.

Mr. Dinh Phu Cuong said that in previous years the situation was not so difficult, however this year when implementing the collection of student health insurance according to regulations, the school recorded many students with very difficult circumstances (some with unemployed parents; some with orphans...). "While every year, the school receives many flowers and congratulatory cakes. Flowers and cakes are beautiful and delicious, but they have to be thrown away after one day. Therefore, the school board met and agreed to convert these gifts into health insurance cards for students," said Mr. Cuong. Principal of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School said that the school was very happy to receive the consensus and support of many agencies, partners and parents.

After 2 days of launching, although the school announced that there were still 89 students who did not have health insurance cards, the school received support of up to 200 cards. Therefore, Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School announced to stop the campaign. Mr. Cuong said that with the remaining cards, the school will ask for opinions to save them and take care of students in difficult circumstances during the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Action is both beautiful and practical

Responding to the above information, Thanh Nien readers expressed their admiration for the beautiful and practical actions of Mr. Cuong and the collective of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School. "I am truly touched by the heart of a ferryman. A principal who only thinks about the school and the students is worthy of respect," said Thuy Vy, admiring the action.

Similarly, BĐ Minh Ho commented: "Every November 20, many people compete to give luxurious gifts to "please" teachers, which unintentionally makes the value of this special day no longer the same as before and also shows discrimination between rich and poor. Instead, why don't we aim for the common good like this teacher did? Teachers are still happy because they are remembered, students are doubly happy because they are given good conditions to go to school".

BĐ Quang Ta wrote: "A principal takes care of his students like his own children, understands the circumstances of his students. On the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, I wish you and all the teachers of the school good health to take care of and teach the children."

"This is a true teacher, always paying attention to his students, that is something to be respected. He not only spreads a beautiful lifestyle but more importantly, this is also a practical solution to limit the wasteful giving of flowers on November 20. He is truly a dedicated and visionary principal," commented BĐ Hồng Ngọc.

Need to expand to schools

Many BDs think that Mr. Cuong's ideas and actions are very good and meaningful, and should be replicated nationwide. "Gifts on November 20 may be fun, but the long-term value is probably still your students. How touching is the heart of a teacher for the children on Vietnam Teachers' Day. I hope this meaningful work will be spread and replicated," BD Tung Le commented.

Sharing the same opinion, BĐ Hải An wrote: "Feeling warm when reading this news. Hopefully this work will be spread more widely, especially on this occasion of November 20 to make Vietnamese Teachers' Day more meaningful."

"It must be admitted that giving flowers on holidays is beautiful but very wasteful. We also have many ways to express our gratitude to teachers and this is also a practical solution, showing both the spirit of "respecting teachers" and "mutual love". I hope this story will spread more widely, especially on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day", said Duy Tam.

Should be expanded to the whole city and the whole country, a very meaningful and practical work.

Valve South

Very wonderful, very meaningful because of Mr. Cuong's idea. Wish you good health to continue the work of educating people.

Phan Binh

A principal with heart and vision. I wish him to "grow" many good citizens to build the country to be more and more prosperous.
