MU put an end to Ten Hag's first signing

Tyrell Malacia's future at Manchester United is officially over after this season.

Malacia has been disappointing since joining MU.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch defender will leave the "Red Devils" in the summer of 2026. The Dutch player's current contract expires at the end of this season and the two sides will officially "go their separate ways".

Malacia is now back training with the first team, but this is considered a move to increase the transfer value rather than a real reintegration. MU considers selling him in the winter transfer window to earn a small amount.

Malacia was United's first signing under Erik ten Hag. He was expected to become a long-term option on the left wing. However, his career has been hampered by persistent injuries. The 26-year-old missed the entire 2023/24 season due to a knee injury and underwent several surgeries before returning in November last year.

When coach Ruben Amorim gave him a chance, Malacia only played 8 times and looked lost in the new tactical system. Meanwhile, MU recruited two new players in the left-back position, Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon, and Diogo Dalot could also play on this wing, causing Malacia to be completely excluded from the long-term plan.

In the summer of 2025, Malacia was among the five players eliminated along with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho. Attempts to move to Elche (La Liga) or Eyupspor (Türkiye) both failed at the last minute, forcing Malacia to stay as a surplus player.
