Xinhua News Agency quoted information from the Chongqing Municipal Meteorological Bureau on August 11 as saying that heavy rain occurred in 16 districts and counties of Chongqing from 7:00 a.m. on August 10 to 7:00 a.m. on August 11. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Hechuan District, reaching 167 mm.
According to the city's Emergency Management Agency, as of 6 a.m. on August 11, more than 15,000 people had been evacuated from Chongqing to ensure safety.

The city's meteorological observatory and hydrological monitoring station forecast that from 8:00 a.m. on August 11 to 8:00 a.m. on August 13, water levels in most medium and small rivers across Chongqing are expected to rise to varying degrees.
Earlier, on August 10, China's Flood and Drought Relief Headquarters activated a level IV flood control emergency response for Sichuan Province.
The move comes after forecasts from meteorological agencies predict moderate to heavy rain in some areas across the Sichuan basin from August 10 to August 12.
China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue. The emergency response system has four levels, with level I being the most severe.
