The alluvial plain along the Chay River in Cuong 2 village, in previous years, people here mainly cultivated wet rice. The impact of storm No. 3 in September 2024 caused the alluvial plain of more than ten hectares to be submerged in water, soil and sand flattened the entire field, many of the people's fields could no longer be used for rice cultivation. After the storm, people actively improved the soil, changed crops, and introduced new varieties into production.
Grasping the needs of the people, Xuan Hoa commune has cooperated with Thuong Nong Agricultural Cooperative (Phu Tho) to mobilize some households to introduce the chili pepper variety into experimental planting using organic methods, opening up a new direction for economic development for the people.

When participating in the chili growing model, the households are provided with all seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, probiotics and technical instructions from land preparation, sowing to harvesting. At the same time, the Cooperative participates in signing contracts to purchase products and buy chili for the people right in the locality.

Although this is the first crop, chili growers are excited because this year the fresh chili fruit is in season and has a good price. The family of Ms. Hoang Thi Xuan, Cuong 2 village, grows 3 sao of chili. After more than 3 months of planting and caring, the family's chili area has been harvested.

Ms. Hoang Thi Xuan excitedly shared: “Unlike other crops, chili is a plant with a long harvest time. When chili begins to ripen, it will be harvested continuously. At peak ripeness, it is harvested every 3 days and each time my family harvests 70 - 100 kg of fresh chili fruit..."

Similar to Ms. Xuan's family, Ms. Hoang Thi Nha, also in Cuong 2 village, grows 2.5 sao of chili and is also in the harvest season. According to Ms. Hoang Thi Nha, participating in the chili growing model creates regular jobs so she does not have to go to work for hire elsewhere. A crop can be harvested about 20 times, lasting more than 3 months. Moreover, she does not have to worry about the output of the product because the Cooperative buys fresh chili locally at a price of around 15,000 VND/kg, bringing a regular source of income to her family. She feels very secure with this economic model.

Immediately after being informed and encouraged to plant chili peppers, Mr. Long Van Ngan, Secretary of the Party Cell of Cuong 2 Village, and his family registered to participate in the model and conducted a trial planting of 5 sao of chili peppers. Up to this point, Mr. Ngan's family has also harvested 5 batches of ripe chili peppers, bringing in a revenue of more than 10 million VND.

The Secretary of the Long Van Ngan Village Party Cell said: In the initial trial planting, I saw that the chili plants grew and developed well, with large, even fruits. Chili plants grown using organic methods are not affected by pests and diseases and bring high economic efficiency. Along with maintaining the existing area, I will mobilize other families in the village to join in forming a joint model of growing chi thien chili.

Currently, in Cuong 2 village, Xuan Hoa commune, there are 13 households participating in the chili pepper growing model with an area of 2.5 hectares. This year, the weather is favorable for chili peppers to grow and develop, so the chili peppers have a good harvest and the fruits are large and even. In particular, Thuong Nong Agricultural Cooperative - the unit that supplies inputs and guarantees products for farmers, also has a policy to support people to borrow 50% of the price of seeds, cover with plastic, fertilizers, pesticides, and probiotics until the fruit is harvested. The cooperative directly provides technical guidance from land preparation, seed supply, care, to harvesting and signing product consumption contracts, so that people can feel secure in production.

Ms. Dam Thuy Lam, representative of Thuong Nong Agricultural Cooperative, said: In the coming time, the locality will expand the chili growing area. The Cooperative is committed to purchasing all fresh chili fruits for the people, and at the same time, has a timely support policy to share with the people when facing risks. Farmers and local authorities have also committed to accompany the Cooperative to achieve the highest economic efficiency.
The introduction of chili peppers into organic cultivation is a new direction, helping people access scientific and technical advances, creating high-quality agricultural products, and striving to reduce poverty. At the same time, changing the way of thinking and working in shifting the crop structure, as well as gradually increasing the value of use per unit area, solving the concern of farmers with good harvests and low prices, towards safe and sustainable agricultural production.
