Prepaid baggage

Prepaid baggage allows passengers to purchase additional checked baggage at least 3 hours before departure via the Vietnam Airlines website/app or ticket offices/agents. With prepaid baggage, passengers can enjoy savings of up to 50% compared to purchasing at the airport (excess baggage charges apply).

How to buy prepaid baggage

Passengers can purchase up to 15 pieces of prepaid baggage through the following methods:

Purchase prepaid baggage at Vietnam Airlines ticket offices and agents;
During the process of purchasing tickets online on the Vietnam Airlines website and app;
After tickets have been issued, passengers can purchase prepaid baggage in the "Manage Booking" section - "Purchase Additional Services" - "Prepaid Baggage".

Regulations regarding the weight and dimensions of prepaid baggage.

Prepaid baggage must meet the following standard baggage size and weight requirements:

Standard packages have a maximum weight of 23kg.
The maximum total dimensions of a standard package should not exceed 158cm.

When checking in at the airport, if the actual weight or dimensions of your checked baggage exceed the Free Checked Baggage Allowance and Prepaid Baggage Allowance, passengers will need to purchase additional baggage allowance at the airport for the excess baggage. Note:

Prepaid baggage purchase applies to Vietnam Airlines tickets (738) with the operating airline being Vietnam Airlines or Pacific Airlines (except for flights operated by ATR 72 aircraft).
Passengers must purchase prepaid baggage at least 3 hours before departure time.
Prepaid baggage is valid only for the flight and ticket purchased, and can be changed to a different flight date or itinerary at an equal or higher cost. These changes must be made at least 3 hours before the scheduled departure time of the new flight.
Prepaid baggage is non-transferable, non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for other services or passenger tickets.
In the case of prepaid baggage, refunds are permitted if the baggage is purchased with a ticket departing from South Korea and has not been used. The refund fee is 25% of the value of the unused prepaid baggage.

Baggage charges apply at the airport.

When checking in at the airport, excess baggage fees apply in the following cases:

The number of pieces, weight, and/or dimensions of checked baggage actually exceed the Free Checked Baggage Allowance and the passenger has not purchased Prepaid Baggage, or
If the actual number, weight, or dimensions of checked baggage exceed the Free Checked Baggage Allowance and Prepaid Baggage Allowance regulations, passengers may purchase additional excess baggage at the airport.

How to purchase excess baggage at the airport.

Passengers can purchase additional baggage allowance at Vietnam Airlines' airport ticket counters. Baggage allowance purchased at the airport is divided into three categories: standard extra baggage, oversized baggage, and overweight baggage.

Standard purchase option

On domestic and international routes, additional baggage purchased on flights operated by Vietnam Airlines and Pacific Airlines has a maximum weight of 23kg and a total three-dimensional size of no more than 158cm.

Oversized package

Oversized baggage includes items with total dimensions (length, width, and height) ranging from 158cm to 203cm.

Packages exceeding standard weight

On domestic and international flights, excess baggage is calculated from 23kg to 32kg. Note: If a piece of baggage exceeds the standard weight or dimensions, passengers must pay the standard extra baggage fee (in addition to the free baggage allowance, not including pre-paid baggage) + excess weight fee + excess dimensions fee.
