In the Premier League standings, MU currently holds an 11-point lead over Brighton (currently 6th) with only 4 rounds remaining. With the top 5 teams already securing Champions League qualification for next season, Michael Carrick's side only needs one more win to achieve their goal. They could even secure qualification earlier if Brighton slip up against Newcastle on May 2nd.
Returning to Europe's most prestigious competition would provide a significant financial boost for the "Red Devils". Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired nearly 30% of the club's shares in February 2024, he has had to spend around £1.3 billion to keep the club running. Without revenue from the Champions League, the risk of MU having to take on more debt or sell players is very real, given the club's already significant financial pressure.
The Champions League winner is expected to earn around £150 million in prize money, not including revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, and related tournaments such as the FIFA Club World Cup. For Manchester United alone, home matches in the qualifying rounds could bring in at least £30 million.

Notably, UEFA has just reached a new television rights deal worth approximately £4.3 billion, a significant increase from the current figure of over £3 billion. Around 75% of this money will be allocated to the clubs participating in the Champions League, creating a substantial financial boost from the 2027 season onwards.
Despite Manchester United's low 5-year and 10-year performance coefficients, they still benefit greatly from the high value of television rights in the UK market. In addition, commercial contracts will also increase significantly. For example, Adidas is willing to reward the team with an extra £10 million per season if they qualify for the Champions League.
However, experts believe that the Champions League is only a short-term solution. To truly achieve financial stability and compete in the long term, MU needs to build a foundation for sustainable success both domestically and in Europe.
