Vietcombank has just announced an upgrade of the online registration utility for purchasing SJC gold bars starting today, July 29. Accordingly, the bank only allows individual customers with an active payment account opened at Vietcombank to register to purchase SJC gold bars online.
In case customers want to buy gold bars but do not have a payment account at Vietcombank, customers can open an online account in a few minutes following the instructions or go to the nearest branch or transaction office.
In addition, this bank also said that it will deliver gold bars to customers on the next working day, calculated from the date the customer successfully registers to buy gold bars.
Vietcombank said the reason for this change is to increase service quality and facilitate customer information management. At the same time, it contributes to the development of non-cash payments according to the direction of the Government and the State Bank.
Previously, BIDV had implemented registration and transactions to buy SJC gold bars for customers who met the conditions of having registered to buy gold online and having an account at BIDV and the amount of money in the account at the time of registration was enough to pay for the amount of gold they wanted to buy.
According to records, recently, many banks have also advised customers to open accounts at the bank where they buy gold to facilitate transactions and help prevent money laundering. Through this, banks also keep information about customers' transaction history.
How to overcome difficulties in buying gold online?
At the regular press conference for the second quarter last week, the State Bank admitted that people are having difficulty buying gold online.
At the press conference, Tuoi Tre Online pointed out the reality that people with real needs find it very difficult to buy gold online even though they have placed orders right when banks open for sale.
On the other hand, there are groups that specialize in hunting for gold purchase quotas and then reselling them for a fee of 500,000 - 800,000 VND/tael, even accepting orders based on the information provided by the buyer.
So what solutions does the State Bank have to allow people with real needs to buy gold online at the official selling price of the bank, without having to buy at a price difference on the market?
Mr. Dao Xuan Tuan, Director of the Foreign Exchange Management Department of the State Bank, admitted that people have had difficulty buying gold in recent days. However, on the contrary, there are people who have placed orders to buy gold but have not come to pick up the gold.
The State Bank has directed banks and Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) to have appropriate adjustment solutions.
"According to feedback from units, in recent days, especially yesterday, there were people who placed orders to buy gold but did not come to pick up the gold. This clearly shows that market demand has reached a certain level."
Regarding the phenomenon of people buying and selling quotas to buy gold, Mr. Tuan said that the State Bank has worked specifically with police agencies to combat this issue.
"We have also directed four state-owned commercial banks and SJC Company to promptly report to the authorities for appropriate measures. We understand that the authorities are also implementing measures to deal with this," said Mr. Tuan.
