At 11:00 AM on April 11th, we arrived at the Quang Trung road renovation site (Tran Phu ward, Ha Tinh province) and observed many workers and machinery diligently working in extremely harsh weather conditions.

The prolonged heatwave over the past few days has made life extremely difficult for the workers here. They have to wear hats, caps, face coverings, and even sunglasses to alleviate some of the oppressive heat.

Ms. Lanh (residing in Tran Phu ward, Ha Tinh province) stated that she has been employed as a worker at this construction site since after the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse, earning 400,000 VND per day. She is assigned to assist the main workers with leveling the pond and other miscellaneous tasks.

"The work I'm doing is usually assigned to men, but I've been doing it for a long time and I'm used to it. The temperature is extremely high right now, working in this weather is very difficult. The high temperatures lead to dehydration and a rapid decline in health," said Mrs. Lanh.

Mr. Tran Van Hien (60 years old, residing in Phuc Trach commune, Ha Tinh province) said that the Quang Trung road renovation project is progressing rapidly, so the company has to mobilize manpower and machinery to ensure the project meets the deadlines set by the investor.

These days the weather is extremely hot and harsh, so the company has proactively adjusted working hours to avoid the heat and ensure the health of its workers.

“In the morning, the company will send workers to the construction site at around 6:00 AM, and they will rest until around 11:00 AM. In the afternoon, the work schedule is from approximately 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM. This adjustment of working hours is to avoid the peak temperature period, ensuring the health of the workers,” Mr. Hien added.

An elderly woman was carrying vegetables to sell in extremely harsh weather conditions on the afternoon of April 11th.

People in Ha Tinh cover themselves completely to avoid the intense heat when going outside.
