According to federal court documents released on August 3, the US government has accused leaders of the Palestinian Hamas movement of a range of "terrorism" charges.
Accordingly, six individuals, including the current political leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, and former political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in an assassination in Tehran in late July, were named in a court document dated February 1st, accusing them of "conspiring to provide material support for terrorist acts" along with six other charges. The document also includes a request for their arrest.
In a statement on the same day, US Attorney General Merrick Garland affirmed that the published allegations were just one part of Washington's effort to target every aspect of Hamas's operations.
Washington currently lists the Hamas movement as a "terrorist organization".
