According to Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics, more than 80,000 of the country's 10 million citizens moved abroad in 2024.
Avraham Binnenfeld, 28, is one of them. He said the reason is not only because of security threats but also because of a loss of trust in the government . He plans to move to Switzerland to pursue a doctorate.

Experts say this wave of migration is mainly made up of highly educated, well-paid and left-leaning people. They are a key workforce, contributing greatly to the national budget.
Daphna Patishi-Pryluk, founder of an agency that helps Israelis settle abroad, said the reasons for leaving have changed. "Before the Gaza war, most Israelis moved abroad for career opportunities... but more recently, my clients are looking for a respite from the constant wars and political upheaval in Israel."
For some, staying is impossible. Dekel Shalev, a resident of Kibbutz Beeri, which was devastated in the October 7 attack, moved with her family to Colorado in the United States. “At least here there is space, there is quiet, I can look at my children and know they are safe,” she said.
Meanwhile, artist Michal Bar-Or moved from Tel Aviv to Hamburg, Germany, largely to protest the war in Gaza. She describes the political climate in Israel as tense. However, she admits to feeling like she doesn't really belong anywhere. "Every time I feel like I belong less and less."
These departures are expected to have long-term economic , social and political impacts on Israel's future.
